Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer will resign from her cabinet position to accept a role in the private sector, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung announced on social media Monday evening. The reason why is not so pretty.

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will be leaving the Administration to take a position in the private sector. She has done a phenomenal job in her role by protecting American workers, enacting fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives.

Keith Sonderling will take on the role of Acting Secretary of Labor.

Chavez-DeRemer has not disclosed which private sector organization she has accepted a position with. Her unexpected departure means that Keith Sonderling, who previously served as the Deputy Secretary of Labor, will assume the role of Acting Secretary of Labor in the interim.

The Department of Labor will now be the second department to operate under temporary leadership, following the recent departure and reassignment of former Attorney General Pam Bondi earlier this month.

Now, as the headline suggests, this isn’t all bad and it certainly isn’t “Trump’s administration is unraveling.” For one, a certain amount of turnover in an administration is normal, but also, Chavez-DeRemer’s tenure was not without scandal.

Chavez-DeRemer is under investigation for pursuing an “inappropriate” relationship with a subordinate and alleged misconduct, including travel fraud. Her top aides have resigned amid the ongoing probe into these allegations:

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer is under an internal investigation following an explosive complaint alleging she’s been “abusing her position” by pursuing an “inappropriate” relationship with a subordinate, according to sources and documents reviewed by The Post.

Chavez-DeRemer, 57, has welcomed her alleged paramour at least three times to her DC apartment and twice into her hotel room while traveling, alleges a complaint filed with the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Office of Inspector General last week, which has since begun a probe.

The former Oregon congresswoman is also accused of drinking in her office during the workday and committing “travel fraud” by having her chief of staff and deputy chief of staff “make up” official trips to destinations where Chavez-DeRemer can spend time with family or friends on the taxpayers’ dime.

White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers called the allegations “baseless.”

At least she resigned, allowing the president to avoid the ugly and very public battle that plagued his first term as he systematically burned through all of the Deep State plants that were laid to trip him up.
