Liz Cheney Makes Crazy Claim About Trump And Reagan

Former U.S. Representative Liz Cheney suggested in an ABC interview that former President Ronald Reagan would likely support Kamala Harris over Donald Trump. This week, Cheney and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, endorsed the Harris-Walz ticket. The elder Cheney, known for his role as the chief architect of the Iraq War, has consistently labeled Trump as the “greatest threat” to the United States and has accused him of trying to “violently overturn” the 2020 election results despite Trump’s adherence to constitutional legal procedures and his calls for peace on January 6, 2021.

Cheney, who faced strong opposition from the Wyoming Republican Party and was ultimately rejected by voters, reiterated her father’s views on the January 6 Capitol protests during her appearance on ABC News on Sunday. “Yeah, I, you know, I’ve been voting for 40 years. My first vote I ever cast was for Ronald Reagan in 1984. I’ve never voted for a Democrat,” Cheney told host Jonathan Karl.

“And it tells you, I think, the stakes in this election. You know, Donald Trump presents a challenge and a threat fundamentally to the republic. We see it on a daily basis. Somebody who was willing to use violence in order to attempt to seize power, to stay in power, someone who represents unrecoverable catastrophe, frankly, in my view,” the former congresswoman continued. “We have to do everything possible to ensure that he doesn’t, that he’s not re-elected.

Notably, Trump was nearly assassinated on July 13 during a rally in Butler, Pa., and normally — if he were a Democrat — such language from anyone, especially a Republican, about ‘doing everything possible’ to keep him from being reelected would have drawn a hugely negative reaction from the media. But Karl didn’t seem fazed at all by Cheney’s unhinged remark.

Cheney further argued that it is “not enough” to simply not vote for Trump and called on Republicans to vote for Kamala Harris. “Given how close this race is, in my view again, it’s not enough. You have many Republicans out there who are saying, ‘well, you know, we’re not going to vote for him, but we will write someone else in. And I think that this time around, that’s not enough,” she said, ignoring consistent polling that shows near unanimous support for the former president among Republican voters. “It’s important to actually cast a vote for Vice President Harris,” she added.

Cheney then made an extremely implausible claim. “There is absolutely no chance that Ronald Reagan would be supporting Donald Trump. Donald Trump doesn’t stand for any of the things that Ronald Reagan did. And it’s another place where I would urge my Republican colleagues, both in the Congress but across the country, to really look at Donald Trump’s policies, to really look at the danger that he presents, to look at, you know, what he was willing to do to stay in,” she said, adding: “It’s a firm rejection not just of traditional Republican policies but of the constitutional order on which this country depends.”

WATCH:

During his term, Trump literally campaigned on and attempted to enact policies that were very conservative — some of the same policies Reagan pursued as president, such as lowering taxes, cutting or fighting regulations, strengthening the U.S. military, and engaging in a foreign policy that did not involve igniting new wars around the globe. In fact, Trump’s administration was responsible for negotiating historic peace deals between Israel and several of its Arab neighbors.
