Barack Obama came out of his political semi-retirement on Saturday to campaign in Ohio, and he apparently couldn’t get through his speech without taking shots at President Trump’s interior decorating. Because that’s what passes for a big idea from the left these days.
Not to mention Obama’s library looks like a windowless prison where Bubba roams the shower looking for Minnesota fraudsters.
Obama told the Ohio crowd, “Does anybody really think this guy in the White House right now is spending all our time thinking about these issues? I mean, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but he seems very focused on home renovations. He should be on HGTV.” The crowd loved it. Then he really swung: “He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.” So there you have it. The Democrats’ best argument heading into the midterms is a joke about gold accents.
The man who once triggered a national media meltdown over a tan suit is now the guy setting the standards for White House aesthetics. That’s rich. You can read more about Obama’s Ohio midterm rally if you want the full play-by-play of the greatest decorating critique of our time.
Obama wasn’t in Ohio just to roast the President’s renovation budget. He was there to prop up two Democrats who apparently need all the help they can get: Amy Acton, the party’s nominee for governor, and former Sen. Sherrod Brown, who is trying to claw back the Senate seat he already lost. Nothing says “winning coalition” like recycling a guy voters already fired.
There’s something funny about Amy Acton though, as she’s a complete disaster within herself.
The rally also gave Obama a chance to unload on Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy over a campaign ad that featured Acton’s estranged mother calling her a “liar.” The ad drew bipartisan criticism given the family’s background involving alleged sexual abuse. Obama called out Ramaswamy directly. “We all know that guy, who is, like, thirsty,” Obama said. “Just wants to get attention no matter what, willing to do anything. And in recent days we’ve seen there is no line he won’t cross.” Obama added: “I don’t know what’s happened where the standards of behavior have gotten so low that somebody can run an ad like that.”
Illinois first lady MK Pritzker apparently agreed, donating $500,000 to Acton’s campaign following the ad’s release. Half a million dollars and a personal Obama appearance, and the Democrats are still nervous enough to need the former president doing stand-up routines about chandeliers.
Ohio voters head to the polls this fall to decide the governor’s race and the Senate seat. If Saturday is any preview, Democrats are running on “Trump has bad taste in furniture” and “please come back, Sherrod.” Good luck with that platform, because it sucks.
