Homeland Security agents raided Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home, seized her cellphone and passport, and hit relatives with subpoenas, and her husband’s big response was basically: relax, she came here as a refugee when she was 12. No, just kidding, he was spazzing out at the reporter and clearly annoyed.
Tim Mynett stepped out of the couple’s shared rental home Wednesday, walked their Golden Labrador Retriever, Teddy, took out the trash, and escorted one of Omar’s staffers inside. Then he turned to the cameras and let the reporters know how he really felt. “You guys are annoying the h*** out of all the neighbors around here, man,” he said. When asked directly about the federal probe, his answer was two words: “No concerns.” Great. The feds have her phone and passport and he’s worried about the neighbors.
Omar herself had not been seen publicly since the Monday raid, which is a fun detail her husband glossed right over. Reporters on the scene were pressing Mynett on rumors that Omar had actually left the United States following the search, a question nobody in her camp has answered with anything resembling a straight face. A staffer eventually showed up carrying two large Burger King bags, security walked her to the door, and Mynett kept doing his impression of a man who definitely does not have anything to worry about.
Omar did release a statement, which you could set your watch to. Ilhan Omar federal home raid brought her predictable response: “I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.” Her communications director, Jacklyn Rogers, called it an “outrageous abuse of power” and said Omar “has done nothing wrong.” Nobody tell them that federal judges sign search warrants, not Donald Trump.
The criminal immigration investigation centers on questions about Omar’s birth year. Records at the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library were changed from 1981 to 1982 while she served in the state legislature, and the altered date stuck for months after she entered Congress. The one-year difference matters because if 1981 is correct, she would have been 18 when her father naturalized, too old for automatic citizenship through him. If 1982 is correct, she would have been 17 and eligible. Federal investigators want to know whether that paperwork was honest.
Then there’s the money. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro confirmed her office is separately examining Omar’s financial disclosures. Omar’s 2024 congressional filing listed business interests tied to Mynett valued between $6 million and $30 million, including a winery stake worth $1 million to $5 million and a venture capital advisory firm stake worth $5 million to $25 million. After the numbers drew attention, the office amended the filing and restated the equity interests at $0, saying the first version mistakenly reflected total equity instead of ownership interest. Pirro kept it simple on the legal standard: “There are several investigations going on, and I don’t think there’s any question, but if there was a crime that was committed, it will be prosecuted.”
President Trump piled on Tuesday via Truth Social, asking why a filing showed up to $30 million and then collapsed to what he described as $100,000. Why did Ilhan Omar report a Net Worth of up to 30 Million Dollars just a short time ago, and then immediately say, ‘Oh, I made a mistake! It’s really $100,000,'” Trump wrote, adding, “America wants answers, and we want them, NOW!” Two federal investigations, a seized phone, a missing passport, amended financial disclosures, and a husband who thinks the real problem is the camera crews bothering the block. Americans are entitled to facts, not spin, not silence, and not a lecture about who gets to ask questions.
No charges have been announced, but the investigation is very much still running. The next move belongs to federal prosecutors, and given that they already had enough for a judge to sign off on raiding a sitting member of Congress’s home, Mynett’s “no concerns” posture is going to age about as well as that original $30 million net worth filing.

They could move to Somalia and not have these issues.
