Democrats keep telling us that non-citizens don’t vote in our elections, and yet, when someone actually starts looking into the issue — like President Trump’s Justice Department — what do you know? They’re finding all sorts of illegals voting. Which, of course, goes a long way towards explaining why Democrats don’t want Trump deporting anyone here illegally.
Federal authorities announced Thursday that a grand jury has indicted 10 noncitizens accused of falsely claiming United States citizenship and participating in North Carolina elections, including the 2024 general election, as prosecutors intensify enforcement of federal voting laws.
U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle of the Eastern District of North Carolina said the indictments followed an investigation by the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations, with federal agents arresting the defendants after the grand jury returned charges.
Prosecutors allege all 10 falsely represented themselves as American citizens to register or vote in the 2024 election, although the indictments remain accusations and each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Nine defendants face both falsely claiming citizenship to vote and voting by an alien, while Mervin Sylvester Bogle, a Jamaican lawful permanent resident, is charged with falsely claiming citizenship to vote. The felony offense involving a false citizenship claim carries a potential maximum sentence of five years in federal prison, according to the Justice Department.
“There is no more important right a citizen possesses above the right to vote,” Boyle said, arguing that illegal ballots undermine lawful voters and warning that federal authorities will prosecute election crimes.
The defendants include one person described by prosecutors as an illegal alien and nine lawful permanent residents from countries including Germany, Jamaica, Haiti, Panama, Canada and the former Yugoslavia. Eduardd Omar Majano Sosa, a 22-year-old Salvadoran living in Cumberland County, allegedly registered in 2024 and voted in that year’s general election despite lacking citizenship.
Several defendants allegedly participated in elections long before 2024, according to voting histories detailed by federal prosecutors. Gjina Gojcaj McDonald, 60, allegedly registered in 2008 and voted in numerous elections through 2024, including general, primary and special elections.
Karl Fout, 73, allegedly registered in 2008 and voted in seven general elections between 2008 and 2024, while Ramona Abreu-Exia, 71, allegedly voted in multiple elections dating to 2004. Canadian native Robert Harold Corbett, 69, allegedly registered in 1998 and participated in federal elections spanning more than two decades.
Lawful permanent resident James Edward Herrmann allegedly voted in the 2020 and 2024 general elections, while prosecutors say Lawton Caswell McKenzie voted in the 2012, 2020 and 2024 general elections. Lionel Paul, a Haitian native and lawful permanent resident living in Granville County, allegedly registered in 2024 and cast a ballot in that year’s general election.
The indictments do not identify which candidates any defendant supported — not that it matters. Illegal voting is illegal voting. The only difference is Republicans want all of it ended, while Democrats seem to rely on it a lot more than we probably realize.
