The Democratic Party’s candidate for governor of Wisconsin, Democrat Socialist Francesca Hong, went to a rally Sunday and told her supporters she would meet ICE agents with “the force and fury required to keep us all safe.”
Let that sentence settle. A major party’s nominee for a governorship — someone who wants to command the Wisconsin National Guard, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the state’s entire executive apparatus — just promised to use force against federal law enforcement officers doing their lawful jobs.

This isn’t ambiguous. This isn’t a gaffe. Hong said it at a rally, on camera, to an audience that responded by chanting “Block ICE.” She has already promised to make Wisconsin a sanctuary state. She has already floated deploying the National Guard against ICE. And now she has explicitly used the words “force and fury” to describe what her administration would bring against federal immigration enforcement.
The same Democratic Party that accused Trump supporters of inciting violence with political rhetoric has nominated a woman who is using the word “force” to describe her intended response to the federal agents whose job is removing violent criminals from American streets. The same party that held January 6th hearings for years, that ran congressional investigations into political speech, that classified concerned parents at school board meetings as potential domestic terrorists — that party’s nominee in Wisconsin just promised to meet federal agents with force.
And the Democratic establishment will do nothing about it. They’ll endorse her, fund her, and send surrogates to Wisconsin to campaign for her — because they need the governorship and they’ve already conceded that DSA candidates are untouchable within their own coalition.
Here’s the context that makes this even more relevant. Assaults against ICE officers have increased by 1,300% during the period of intensified anti-ICE rhetoric from the left. A federal building in New York City was firebombed last month. A federal building in Portland was attacked repeatedly. The political environment that produces “Block ICE” chants and promises of “force and fury” from gubernatorial candidates is the same environment that produces men showing up at federal buildings with flammable liquid.

Oh, yeah.
Hong is also not a moderate who stumbled into provocative language. She called for defunding the police during a debate, which was caught on video and went viral. She has staked her entire campaign on opposition to immigration enforcement. She won the Democratic primary in Wisconsin — which means a plurality of Wisconsin Democrats looked at everything she stands for and said yes.
Republicans should run her “force and fury” clip in every competitive Wisconsin legislative race from now until November. Every Republican candidate in the state should be asked one question: do you agree with Francesca Hong that the state should meet federal agents with force?
Wisconsin voters deserve to know exactly who – and what – they’re being asked to elect.
