Another ally of President Trump got some good news on Friday.
The Georgia primary held on May 19 resulted in a runoff between Republican Rep. Mike Collins (GA-10) and former University of Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley.
Collins led Dooley by 10 points, receiving 40.5 percent of the vote compared to Dooley’s 30.9 percent. Since neither candidate achieved the required 50 percent plus one vote to advance directly to the general election in November, a runoff election is necessary.
The stakes are high for the Republican candidate who will face Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) in the upcoming runoff election.
With just two weeks to go, a recent poll from JMC Analytics and Polling shows Mike Collins leading Dooley by 16 points.
The poll indicates that 39 percent of undecided voters are leaning toward Collins, while 27 percent are in favor of Dooley. In terms of favorability, 25 percent of voters viewed Collins as “very favorable,” compared to 16 percent for Dooley:
Collins is a two-term congressman known for his fiscal conservatism and championing small business and the working man and woman. Collins introduced the Laken Riley Act to the House of Representatives and was instrumental in shepherding it toward passage in the House. He strongly aligns with the MAGA agenda of mass deportations, strong border security, and is a staunch supporter of veterans and the military. Though Collins has been a loyal ally in seeing the Trump agenda enacted, President Donald Trump has not yet chosen to endorse for this race.
Dooley’s campaign is more focused on “Georgia First” above America First. Dooley promises he will champion safer communities, fight for more quality education and skills training to prepare Georgians for high-paying roles in the 21st-century economy, and improve affordability. Dooley has been endorsed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.
Trump may not have endorsed yet, but if he does, and he backs Collins, then the race is over – he will win. Trump’s endorsements this primary season have been gold for the candidates he’s backed.
The primary run-off is June 16.
