A fresh poll dropped this week that should send Democrats into full-blown panic mode: immigration — long treated by the left as a third-rail issue immune from political consequence — is now a major vulnerability for the Democrat Party heading into 2026.

Swing voters and independents largely concur that individuals who have entered the country illegally have violated the law, with 82 percent of swing voters and 70 percent of independents sharing this view. Overall, 73 percent of American voters express agreement with this sentiment, and notably, a striking 48 percent of Democrats also consider illegal border crossings to be a crime.
In our new @cygnal poll, 82% of swing voters say those who came here illegally broke the law (only 13% disagree), and 66% oppose shutting the govt. down to defund ICE. https://t.co/EPQVnjAhL6

A significant 64 percent of the total electorate views illegal immigration as a “very” or “somewhat serious problem.” In contrast, 61 percent of Democrats believe it isn’t an issue at all. Meanwhile, swing voters and independents tend to lean toward Republican views on this matter, with 71 percent of swing voters and 60 percent of independents sharing that perspective.

When it comes to deportations, Democrats find themselves at odds with public opinion. Recent polls show that 61 percent of voters are in favor of deporting undocumented immigrants, while a notable 67 percent of Democrats oppose such measures.

Voters have once again expressed their support for ICE and its funding, with over half of them backing the agency. This includes 59 percent of swing voters and 52 percent of independents. In contrast, 81 percent of Democrats opposed ICE’s enforcement of immigration laws, and nearly 70 percent indicated they would be willing to shut down the government to cut its funding.
“Democrats are living on a different planet when it comes to the issue of deportation and ICE’s enforcement of federal laws to remove those here illegally,” Cyngal said in their analysis of the poll. “Most voters are on one side of the issue, and Democrats are taking a drastically opposing position on every aspect of the issue.”
“This push against deportation from the Left is proven in the polling to cost Democrats electorally in the midterms if Republicans say strong on this ‘rule of law’ issue,” the firm concluded.
For years, Democrats have doubled down on soft-on-law enforcement rhetoric, glorified sanctuary policies, and treated border security as a distraction rather than a responsibility. Meanwhile, Republicans and conservative voters have consistently hammered home a message of law and order, controlled immigration, and enforcement first. Now the public is responding.
The takeaway is simple: the political winds have shifted and in no small way. Immigration is no longer a corner issue confined to cable news arguments and Twitter battles. It’s a voter priority issue that could shape outcomes up and down the ballot.
And of course, Democrats – again – are on the wrong side of the issue because they care more about robbing the country of congressional seats and stealing power instead of protecting it.
