Former Arizona gubernatorial and Senate candidate Kari Lake has landed a plumb position in the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump and frankly, she’s the perfect candidate for the job. Trump has tapped staunch Lake as the next director of the Voice of America, a taxpayer-funded U.S. government broadcaster.
“I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America. She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media,” Trump announced in a Truth Social post on Wednesday evening.
Before stepping into politics in 2022, Kari Lake worked as a news anchor for Phoenix’s KSAZ-TV, a role she held from 1999 to 2021. She knows the media industry inside and out, and she’s well aware — as is Trump — that VOA is little more than another outlet for the Democratic Party and the extreme global left. In a post of her own, Lake enthusiastically embraced the president-elect’s appointment, sharing her excitement in a social media post.
“I am honored that President Trump has asked me to lead the Voice of America,” she wrote on Truth Social. “VOA is a vital international media outlet dedicated to advancing the interests of the United States by engaging directly with people across the globe and promoting democracy and truth,” the post continued, adding that VOA broadcasts in 48 languages. “Thank you for putting your trust in me, President Trump. I look forward to leading the Voice of America, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Voice of America (VOA), established during World War II, operates under a congressional charter that mandates it provide independent news and information to international audiences. However, the broadcaster stirred controversy in 2020 by publishing several stories that portrayed the Trump Administration negatively. This drew sharp criticism from Trump, who accused VOA staffers of saying “nasty things about our country.” Lake’s appointment means the president-elect is hoping to steer the organization back to its intended mission.
Meanwhile, former Republican Florida Representative Matt Gaetz is slated to join the primetime roster on One America News Network (OAN) in January, the network announced on Tuesday. Gaetz will host his hour-long program, “The Matt Gaetz Show,” at 9 p.m. EST every weeknight, according to OAN’s press release. The network brought on the former congressman after he resigned from his seat and withdrew his nomination to serve as U.S. Attorney General in President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming administration.
“With Gaetz rounding out OAN’s prime-time lineup, the network is poised for a groundbreaking 2025, reaffirming its mission to deliver credible, independent news and unfiltered commentary to audiences across the nation,” the press release reads. “Matt Gaetz has earned a reputation as a relentless champion of conservative values, taking on entrenched Washington bureaucrats and exposing government overreach.”
