Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk accused the Biden-Harris administration, via the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), of obstructing the delivery of additional Starlink units intended to help residents in areas affected by Hurricane Helene stay connected to the Internet. “FEMA is not merely failing to adequately help people in trouble, but is actively blocking citizens who try to help!” Musk wrote Friday in a post on X which included the following note he received from a SpaceX engineer on the ground in North Carolina.
“Hey Elon, update here on site of Asheville, NC. We have powered up two large operating bases for choppers to deliver goods into hands. We’ve deployed 300+ starlinks and outpour is it has saved many lives,” the engineer wrote. “The big issue is FEMA is actively blocking shipments and seizing goods and services locally and locking them away to state they are their own. It’s very real and scary how much they have taken control to stop people helping. We are blocked now on the shipments of new starlinks coming in until we get an escort from the fire dept. but that may not be enough,” he added. Musk also owns the satellite-fed Internet provider.
Text messages that Musk shared in a subsequent post indicated that the Federal Aviation Administration is restricting private flights in North Carolina airspace, making it more difficult to continue delivering additional Starlink units and other emergency supplies, Just the News reported. Former first daughter Ivanka Trump distributed Starlink units, hot meals, and essential supplies in North Carolina on Wednesday. According to texts from Musk’s team on the ground, FEMA arrived and began “blocking us.” The text message aligns with remarks made by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg about the “temporary flight restrictions” imposed on private flights and drones over areas affected by the storm.
Jonathan Howard, with the Florida State Guard Special Missions Unit, uploaded a video message detailing the on-the-ground situation during the aerial recovery efforts in North Carolina following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. He also said reports and claims that the Biden-Harris administration was present and providing assistance to those affected by the storm were “bullshit,” noting, too, that he and others are being prevented by federal agencies from helping people in need.
” I really don’t want to make this video, but it is literally a matter of life and death for the people of North Carolina. So, my name is Jonathan Howard. I’m a member of the Florida State Guard Special Missions Unit,” he began. “I’m also up here with Aerial Recovery, a non-profit. I came up here on Sunday with Aerial Recovery before we even got activated. We flew up here and then we got activated, which was great.” (See video below)
“I had my team up here working as well. Here’s the problem. I’m going to tell you everything that’s happening from the ground, what I’m actually seeing, because what they’re telling you is complete bullsh*t on the news and these politicians don’t have a f*cking clue and they’re lying,” he continued. “I’ll say this now. I’ll say it at the end of the video. The only thing I need from this video is helicopters.”
Continuing, Howard said: “If I have helicopters, I can save lives. Without helicopters, I can’t reach these people. It doesn’t matter how many chainsaws and trucks I got, I can’t get to them. They’re 10 miles in, 20 miles, 40 miles in the mountains. There’s no way to get with them or even communicate with them. I am literally flying around in a civilian helicopter looking for SOS messages carved in the mud or painted on the ground and we’re dropping down and saving them.”
