WATCH: Lindsey Graham gets booed relentlessly at South Carolina rally for Trump

Sen. Lindsey Graham’s reputation as a political opportunist appears to be wearing thin, even in his home state.

The South Carolina Republican was booed relentlessly at a rally on Saturday for former President Donald Trump, according to videos posted to social media.



The Pickens, South Carolina, which was instrumental in delivering Trump his largest margin of victory in 2020, is anticipated to attract over 30,000 participants. Situated in a convenient location, the town is easily accessible from Northeastern Georgia and North Carolina, creating an opportunity for tens of thousands of people to attend the event with ease.

According to a report from RSBN, crowds began gathering at dawn, and eventually, the line to get into the rally stretched for 15 blocks.

When gates first opened at 11 a.m., a slate of top South Carolina Republicans addressed the crowd. U.S. Rep. Russell Fry (R-SC) drew thunderous cheers and applause when he declared South Carolina “Trump country.”

Graham, on the other hand, faced a less favorable outcome as the veteran senator experienced a consistent chorus of boos during his speech. The crowd expressed their disapproval when he was introduced and the booing persisted throughout his entire address.

“They booed him when he arrived and they booed him when he left. At no point did they cheer for him. At one point they even started chanting ‘Traitor.’ They believe he has sold them out,” one RSBN reporter said of Graham’s reception. “The people of South Carolina really did not like him.”

Graham’s political career has been marked by controversy in Washington, primarily due to his perceived habit of adopting contradictory positions on critical matters depending on the prevailing political climate.

A notable instance of this occurred when Graham aligned himself with Trump in recent years, yet he chose to certify the 2020 election results and showered praise on his “good friend” Joe Biden while speaking on the Senate floor.

“I’ve traveled the world with Joe. I hoped he lost. I prayed he would lose. He won. He’s the legitimate President of the United States. I cannot convince people, certain groups, by my words, but I will tell you by my actions that maybe I, above all others in this body, need to say this,” Graham said in an impassioned Senate floor speech during the election certification on January 6, 2021.

In recent months, Graham has faced significant criticism from his constituents due to his highly assertive position on the Ukraine conflict. Just last week, Graham aligned himself with Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) — who falsely claimed to be a Vietnam veteran — in issuing a strong warning, vowing to take severe action against Russia in the event of an attack on a critical nuclear power plant situated on the frontlines.

He has also called for the U.S. to provide fighter jets, Abrams battle tanks, cluster munitions, and long-range missiles to help Ukraine win at all costs.
