New York City’s dipstick of a Mayor, Mr. Zohran Mamdani, has some reassuring news for voters: you don’t need to bring ID to the polls because the elections are totally secure. He apparently doesn’t see the problem with that sentence. Maybe we should call him Mamdummy, because he’s either got the IQ of a muskrat or he’s purposely saying ridiculous things even though he knows they’re not true.
Lack of ID makes the election the most NOT secure thing in the world. So insecure even a terrorist could vote! But hey, now we know how Mamdani won. Maybe he had a bunch of third-worlders voting for him when he promised a free bus ride and never delivered on it. Typical Democrat liar, right?
Mamdani posted his message online with all the confidence of a man who has never thought too hard about what the word “secure” means. “Voting is easy and safe,” he wrote. In New York City you don’t need to bring anything with you to cast your vote at the polls. We’ll even give you a pen. Our city’s elections are secure.”
So just to recap the Democratic logic here: the fewer checks there are on who’s actually voting, Mamdani voter ID claims the more secure the election becomes. Brilliant. That’s like a bank bragging that their vault is totally safe because they removed the lock.
The rest of the country, operating on basic common sense, generally believes you should probably confirm someone’s identity before they cast a vote that helps determine who gets unlimited political power over millions of people. You need an ID to buy beer, board a plane, pick up a prescription, and open a library card, but in New York City, walking up and saying “yep, that’s me” is apparently all the verification democracy requires.
Republicans have pushed for voter ID laws for years, and Democrats have fought them every step of the way while calling the elections that result “the most secure in history.” Mamdani is just saying the quiet part loud now, which at least deserves some credit for honesty, if absolutely none for logic.
People who don’t want voter ID are people who want to cheat in elections. People who need to cheat in elections are people we should never vote for.
Mamdani will keep making the case that asking people to prove who they are is somehow an obstacle rather than a bare minimum. Republicans will keep pointing at statements like this one and asking voters outside New York if this is really the direction the country wants to go. Spoiler: most of the country would like to see a little ID before someone fills out a ballot. But hey, at least they’re offering a free pen.
Oh wait, taxpayers probably paid for the pen, too!
