Dem Senate Candidate Peggy Flanagan Helped Fund ‘Booty Bump’ Drug Kits With Your Money

Minnesota Democratic Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan helped steer $100 million in state grants to groups including a nonprofit that hands out kits for taking drugs rectally, then claimed she barely had any role in the administration she served for eight years.

Minnesota Democratic Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan helped direct $100 million in state grants to organizations that included a nonprofit distributing kits for taking drugs through the rectum, and she wants your vote to go to Washington. Eight years as lieutenant governor and this is the portfolio she’s running on.

Flanagan joined Gov. Tim Walz in 2024 to announce the $100 million grant package aimed at helping “Minnesotans facing homelessness.” One of the recipients was Southside Harm Reduction Services. The Washington Free Beacon reported that Southside hands out “Booty Bump” kits containing syringes, sterile water, drug preparation supplies, lubricant, and an informational booklet. “Booty bumping,” for anyone who was not aware, refers to consuming drugs through the rectum. With your tax dollars. In Minnesota.

The Walz administration’s announcement described Southside as providing outreach “to people experiencing unsheltered homelessness who use drugs, primarily in or near Minneapolis and St. Paul.” The announcement listed syringe exchange, naloxone distribution, HIV testing, and housing referrals as services, but somehow forgot to mention the rectal drug kits. Funny how that works. You can read more about Flanagan’s role in the grant funding and what those dollars actually paid for.

At the time, Flanagan said the grant money would “ensure that everyone can access the supports they need to find and secure safe, stable housing.” Sure. Very housing-focused. Nothing says “stable housing” like a kit with lubricant and a how-to booklet.

Now here is where it gets really rich. When reporters asked Flanagan whether she takes “any ownership over the fraud” in Minnesota’s separate government scandals, she suddenly developed a very convenient case of amnesia about being second-in-command. “The governor has been very clear that the buck stops with him,” she said, pointing directly at Walz. She then listed the things she personally takes credit for, including paid family leave, a child tax credit, and school lunches. So she’s in the room for the wins and nowhere near it for the losses. Classic.

Republican Senate opponent Michele Tafoya was not buying a single word of it. “My goodness, she was second in charge in this state, and she’s just going to point her finger at Gov. Tim Walz when she demanded to be in the room where everything happened,” Tafoya said. “But, suddenly, she has nothing to do with this. Again, sell it to someone else.”

Flanagan has served as Minnesota’s lieutenant governor for nearly eight years. Eight years of being in charge, taking credit for the good stuff, and apparently having absolutely no idea what was going on everywhere else. Tafoya and Flanagan will keep making their cases to Minnesota voters, and those voters will get to decide whether they want the woman who helped fund rectal drug kits while dodging accountability to represent them in the U.S. Senate. Should be an easy call.

These people are repulsive.
