A Fake Scientist Supporting James Talarico Sums Up The Worst of the Democrats

Texas Democrat James Talarico is leaning on Bill Nye the Science Guy for a Senate campaign video targeting teachers. Because nothing says 'beat Ken Paxton' like a 90s kids' TV host.

The guy who pretends to be a scientist is trying to help the Democrat who supports men who pretend to be women. Unfortunately, this IS Texas.

This is like if someone came up with one of the worst ideas for a season of American Horror Story, but it’s real life and Texas’ future depends on it.

Democrat James Talarico is pulling out all the stops in his long-shot Senate bid against Ken Paxton, and his latest secret weapon is Bill Nye the Science Guy. Nye appears in a new campaign video debuting Friday, pitching Talarico to teachers across the state.

For starters, Talarico is probably someone I wouldn’t want in a classroom indoctrinating students on woke nonsense and fake genders. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, and we don’t need him describing where his tip goes to a building full of children.

In the video, Nye says, “Now, I’ve spent my career getting young people excited about science, about being curious, about learning in general, and so do you, you are teachers in Texas. And get this, maybe you know this: James Talarico was a teacher, a middle school teacher, in San Antonio before he was in the Texas legislature. Now, he’s running for Senate, and he needs your support.” Nothing moves Texas voters like the guy who explained photosynthesis to millennials using sock puppets.

The video is part of an effort to launch a coalition called Teachers for Talarico. The candidate did, in fact, teach middle school in San Antonio before heading to the Texas legislature, so the pitch at least has a real hook. Talarico’s Senate campaign video Whether Texas voters care more about that than, say, kitchen table issues, remains to be seen.

Talarico has also been photographed with Willie Nelson and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show, where Kimmel sang his praises. That interview, though, got bumped to YouTube over concerns about the FCC’s equal time rule. So if you missed it on TV, congratulations, you now know how to find YouTube. And then you’ll laugh at it too.

Compared to the 2024 presidential race, this midterm cycle has seen relatively few celebrities stumping for candidates. Talarico seems to be bucking that trend one pop culture figure at a time – or maybe it’s just that even the wokest celebrities want nothing to do with Talarico. Republican super PACs, meanwhile, are investing heavily to shore up support for Paxton in the state, even as Talarico has been leading in polls.

So the race is tight, the celebrity cavalry is arriving in slow motion, and Ken Paxton is staring down a challenger backed by a fake scientist known as Bill Nye and Willie Nelson. Texas politics, everybody. Drop your take in the comments or fire it off on social media.
