The federal investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) just got a whole lot more interesting. A search warrant filed in connection with the immigration fraud probe lists Omar not as Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, the name she has used throughout her political career, but as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”
Legal commentator Will Chamberlain flagged the filing, writing that the Department of Justice “believes she is present in the United States under a false identity.” So the woman serving in the United States Congress, casting votes on your laws, may not even be who she says she is. Totally normal stuff.
Federal agents raided the D.C. residence Omar shares with her husband last week, seizing her phone, computer, and passport. The investigation also involves DNA evidence that could shed light on longstanding allegations that Omar married her own brother as part of an immigration fraud scheme. Before you call it a Republican witch hunt, consider this: a Democrat judge signed the search warrant, and the probe started under Joe Biden. Hard to pin that one on MAGA.
Now Ilhan Omar immigration fraud investigation has pulled in her family, too. Omar’s older sister, Sahra Noor, voluntarily spoke with federal investigators following the Monday morning raid, according to Fox News Digital. Three sources familiar with the investigation confirmed the conversation took place, though the exact scope remains unclear.
Noor came to the United States as a child from Somalia, just as Omar did. She currently lives in Kenya, according to her LinkedIn page, but has been stateside promoting her new book, “Salt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story.” Federal agents had already seized Noor’s phone earlier this year, and messages found on that device are reportedly what triggered the search of Omar’s home in the first place.
The Left, predictably, has been screaming political persecution from the rooftops. It’s almost impressive how quickly progressives blame Republicans for investigations launched by Democrat-appointed officials and signed off on by Democrat judges. Almost. The mental gymnastics required would win gold at any Olympic games.
There are also separate allegations that Omar’s winery sold empty barrels, but, as investigators apparently feel, there’s only so much you can tackle at once. The immigration fraud case alone is keeping people plenty busy.
The investigation is ongoing, and given that the search warrant itself questions whether Omar’s legal identity is even real, it’s safe to say this story has a long way to run. A sitting member of Congress potentially living under a false name is not exactly a minor footnote. Voters in Minnesota’s Fifth District might want to start asking some very basic questions, starting with who exactly they elected.
