President Trump doesn’t get many legislative wins these days despite the fact that Republicans control both chambers of Congress. That isn’t his fault, mind you, but the fault of the Republican majorities. There are still to many RINOs and Republicans afflicted with TDS serving in Congress, but that is changing every year.
In any event, Trump picked up a win on Tuesday, as legislation called the “Secure America Act” is heading to his desk:
The House of Representatives passed the “Secure America Act” on Tuesday – a reconciliation bill that will fund ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) through early 2029. The $70 billion proposal now heads to President Donald Trump’s desk for final approval.
The vote was 214-212 along party lines, and the legislation passed the Senate last week, with Democrats and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) voting against it. Rep. Kevin Kiley (I-CA) voted against the legislation, along with all Democrats.
Why Murkowski would vote against a measure to fund agencies that fall under homeland security is a mystery. But that said, it’s time to boot her butt out of the Republican caucus and be done with it already. She’s practically a Democrat anyway.
For his part, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) took a victory lap.
“With today’s vote, House and Senate Republicans have officially ended the third Democrat government shutdown of this Congress,” Johnson said in a statement.
“And here’s the end result of Democrats’ record-setting obstruction: CBP and ICE will now be funded for the remainder of President Trump’s term and Democrats will have no ability to defund these agencies in the 119th or 120th Congresses,” he continued.
BREAKING: The House just voted 214-212 to pass the Senate's reconciliation bill to fund ICE and CBP with $70 billion over the next three years. The bill will now head to President Trump's desk for signature. Every Republican present voted yes, every Democrat present voted no.…

“All that Democrats have achieved by their shutdown is a useful reminder to the American people of their support for open borders and keeping criminal [aliens] in American communities — policies that have been soundly rejected by the American people over and over again. We hope this episode serves as a future reminder to Democrats that when they shut the government down, they will receive less than nothing in return,” Johnson added.
The Republican Governor’s Association was on board with the legislation because it helps fund agencies responsible for ridding the country of non-citizens. Which, of course, is why Democrats opposed it.
“Governors will only be as successful as their federal partners, and Congressional Democrats are failing to fulfill the basic federal responsibility of funding key portions of our federal law enforcement system,” the governors wrote in a recent letter.
Again, a rare legislative win for Trump, but a good one. It’s a Democrat disgrace (and a GOP disgrace to a point) over how long it took to get this measure to Trump’s desk.
