Dan Turrentine is yet another semi-defrocked political strategist for the Democratic Party, primarily due to his willingness to express his opinions and challenge the Democrats when they go too far. Once a prominent presence on 2Way, he is currently co-hosting The Huddle alongside Sean Spicer and Rachael Bade. Turrentine offered an update on the current legal dispute regarding Virginia’s gerrymandered electoral maps, which were narrowly approved in a referendum last month. The Virginia Supreme Court denied the state’s request for a stay, which would have prevented the maps from being certified.
The case is currently before the Supreme Court of Virginia, and although no official ruling has yet been issued, the prospects appear bleak. Turrentine noted that the absence of a decision last Friday caused chaos for those supporting this map, prompting the governor’s staff to criticize the Democratic leadership in the legislature, claiming they warned last fall that this initiative would not survive legal scrutiny. According to Turrentine’s source, who has insight into the decision-making process, the outlook is uncertain, but he estimates there is less than a 50% likelihood that this map will receive approval:
What I was told yesterday is that they now think it’s less than 50% that the court will let the certification go through. The Governor’s staff is now snipping at the Sen Majority Leader and House Speaker that they warned them last fall this would not pass legal review.

Former Virginia Attorney General (R) Ken Cucinelli, who has predicted that the state Supremes will unanimously reject the gerrymandered map, also laid out some new info, none of which is good for the Domestic Terrorism Party:

2. In Tazewell 2, re the 2026 violations by the Dem Gen Assembly, the injunction imposed on the referendum by the trial judge was left in place last Tuesday. This tea leaf might suggest #SCOVA has decided to rule against the referendum & so is holding the referendum in place

It comes in mens and womens and lets your friends know you're happy to express your views and don't care what anyone thinks! Cheers!

4a. Reminder tea leaf: back in February, when #SCOVA held Tazewell 1 instead of hearing it prior to the referendum, they made a very unusual comment on the merits, saying words to the effect of "we have grave concerns about the serious issues raised in this case"

Conc.: it's still my belief that #SCOVA will rule against the referendum, leaving Va. with its current 6-5 map through 2026 (at least).
I also believe that #SCOVA is trying to go fast, knowing we need maps for 2026 elections, & we could see a ruling as early as this week…

Are Republicans about to get a huge win? Things are looking up but we’re just going to have to wait and see.
