Democrat Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-14) is facing some significant challenges, particularly as his past actions and poor judgment continue to resurface. One of the more questionable episodes involves his connection with a suspected Chinese agent, where Rep. Swalwell allegedly fell victim to one of the classic tactics in espionage: the honey trap.
Currently, the FBI, under Director Kash Patel, is compiling documents related to this unwise situation, and Swalwell’s attorneys are reportedly gearing up to send a strongly worded letter demanding that the FBI refrain from releasing those files. Isn’t transparency supposed to be a positive thing? Peter Baker, Chief White House Correspondent for the chief Democrat propaganda outlet, The New York Times, whined that the information could potentially be used to “smear” Swalwell:
Trump officials have ordered FBI agents to gather documents about a decade-old investigation into Eric Swalwell and his ties to a suspected Chinese spy, alarming law enforcement officials who fear it could be used to smear him. @ewong @DevlinBarrett https://t.co/jdCPeYy3EI

But is it a smear if it’s all true? Here’s more from the Democrats’ other chief propaganda rag, the Washington Post:
Attorneys for Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California) demanded Monday in a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel that the bureau refrain from releasing decade-old investigative files involving the congressman’s purported ties to a suspected Chinese intelligence operative.
The congressman called for the FBI to agree within three days not to release the files, adding that any further action to release them could prompt him to take legal action. The cease-and-desist letter followed a report from The Washington Post over the weekend that Patel had dispatched agents to review and redact the files in a potential move to ready them for a public release.
Swalwell was not accused of any wrongdoing when the FBI investigated him and the suspected spy, Christine Fang, a decade ago. Swalwell’s congressional office said it had immediately cut ties with Fang when federal agents informed him in 2015 that they were concerned she might be an intelligence operative. More recently, the Republican-led House Ethics Committee closed a two-year investigation into the congressman in 2023 without taking any action.
Based on what’s been stated, it seems unlikely that the impulsive Rep. Swalwell will face any charges. However, the details of the investigations are set to be made public, just as Mr. Swalwell has been calling for the release of the Epstein files.
Is this a push for transparency in all matters, or just when it impacts Republicans?
Let’s face it: Rep. Swalwell is far from the sharpest tool in the Congressional shed, even among his fellow Democrats. He has shown a significant lack of self-awareness and poor judgment in his personal affairs. The hypocrisy he displays is astonishing, even for a Democrat. Rep. Swalwell is quick to demand “transparency” concerning anything related to Trump, but when it comes to his own situation, he refuses to release the relevant files.
If he is blameless in this matter, why is he opposing the release of these documents? As a public official and an employee of the taxpayers, his affairs are not solely his own. The taxpaying voters of California’s 14th Congressional District have a right to know what he has been up to, especially regarding a possible Chinese agent’s involvement.
But it’s always the same with his party: ‘Transparency for thee but not for me.’
