Four Terrorist Attacks Later, Democrats Still Vote To Keep DHS Agencies Defunded

Just two days ago, Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz, a Democrat, expressed that his party was “serene” despite the ongoing government shutdown. This statement came even as TSA agents faced unpaid wages and travelers endured excruciating, hours-long lines at airports across the nation. The Democrats’ actions appear to stem from their desire to defund the Department of Homeland Security and abolish ICE, prioritizing the interests of illegal immigrants — including those with violent criminal backgrounds — over the safety and security of American citizens.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Democrats have leveraged the suffering of Americans for political gain. During last fall’s shutdown, several Democrats openly stated their intention to use the hardships caused by the Schumer Shutdown to achieve their objectives, revealing their true feelings towards We the People.

Just yesterday, the stakes became even more alarming with two terrorist attacks unfolding. In Virginia, a man named Mohamed Jalloh opened fire at Old Dominion University, resulting in the tragic death of Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, a respected professor and military veteran, while injuring two others from the ROTC program. Thankfully, the brave ROTC cadets managed to subdue Jalloh, ensuring their own safety. It later emerged that Jalloh, a naturalized citizen from Sierra Leone, had been arrested in 2017 and sentenced to 11 years for supporting the terror group ISIL — including multiple trips abroad to join their ranks. He was released in 2024, and for reasons that remain unclear, he was not denaturalized or deported.

Shortly after this incident, another attack took place involving Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, an Islamic terrorist from Lebanon residing in Dearborn, Michigan. Ghazali drove his car into the Temple Israel Synagogue and school in West Bloomfield, a suburb of Detroit. He was confronted by armed security and was ultimately killed. Fortunately, the vehicle caught fire before any serious injuries occurred; one security guard was hurt, but thankfully, there were no students or staff present at the time. Similar to Jalloh, Ghazali was also a naturalized citizen.

In less than two weeks, there were two attacks that marked the third and fourth terror incidents on American soil. On March 1, Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old naturalized citizen from Senegal, opened fire at a bar in Austin, Texas, killing two people and injuring several others. Diagne was wearing a T-shirt with an Iranian flag underneath a hoodie that displayed the words “Property of Allah.”

Last weekend, Ibrahim Kayumi and Emir Balat threw a homemade IED into a crowd of anti-Islam protesters in New York City, intending to cause more casualties than the Boston Marathon terrorists did in 2013. Fortunately, that device did not detonate.

Despite these terror attacks, mere minutes after Ghazali attempted to harm Jewish children, both of Michigan’s Democratic Senators—Elissa Slotkin and Gary Peters—voted against a bill that would have funded vital DHS agencies.

Democrats are keeping the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shut down because they want to defund the agency and abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This would enable illegal immigrants and terrorists, like Jalloh and Ghazali, to enter our country, vote in our elections, and help maintain Democratic power.

However, allowing terrorist attacks to occur on American soil does not resonate well with voters. This is why Elissa Slotkin has now decided to support funding for DHS. She made this admission during a press conference regarding the recent Temple Israel terror attack.

“A ton of DHS folks, CBP, so they are on the call and they are doing their jobs. Certainly, we need to fund the Department of Homeland Security, and we need, in my view, to cut away all the conversation on ICE, which is its own conversation, from all the core missions of the Department of Homeland Security,” Slotkin said.

Guy Benson ripped Slotkin’s deplorable ‘no’ funding vote during a Fox News segment on Thursday.

“ICE is already funded for the next three years, so that conversation should have been stripped away already. For her to say that certainly we need to fund Homeland Security, I agree. But I’m not the one who voted to keep it closed yesterday. Which is what she did,” Benson said. “There was a vote on this yesterday, which finished, by the way, after the attack in Michigan, in her state. She reacted on social media to that terrorist attack in her state before the vote ended. That kept the Democrat filibuster alive, meaning that the DHS department remains closed. She made that choice to vote to maintain the shuttering, the temporary closing, of our Homeland Security agency.”

“And then she comes on the cameras today and says, ‘Oh well, certainly we need to fund it.’ She had the chance to do so yesterday, and she chose not to,” Benson continued. “This was after, by the way, there are 47 Democrats in the Senate, 46 of them voted to maintain their filibuster to keep DHS closed. This is after four apparent jihadist attacks on the homeland in the last two weeks. Four homeland attacks in two weeks, and nearly every single Democrat in the Senate voted to keep Homeland Security closed. It’s astonishing.”

It is indeed astonishing. Democrats have clearly shown that they prioritize their pro-illegal immigration agenda over the safety and security of Americans. Tragically, at least three people are dead, and many more are wounded due to jihadists who conducted four attacks in the past two weeks. Keep this in mind during the midterm elections and consider what Democrats may do if they regain power. They’re not even hiding their intentions, after all.
