Here we go – time to start a brand-new week with some really horrible news for the Democrat Party. That’s always fun.
It comes in the form of a newly released NBC News poll that found Trump second only to Pope Leo XIV in terms of popularity, while Democrats are about as popular as a head cold. Even the Republican Party in terms of overall approval has a higher rating than Dems:

Now, let me clarify: Yes, I see Trump has more negative than positive, but 1) he’s still more popular than Democrats, and 2) his 41 percent approval is just a tick below the Pope’s 42 percent approval. So there.
The funniest thing is how even after all the demonizing by the Democrats of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the agency is still viewed more positively than the Democrats themselves. At 38 percent approval, ICE beats:
- Sanctuary cities 33
- Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) 31
- Kamala Harris 34
- Gavin Newsom 27
- Stephen Colbert 35
- Iran 8
- Democratic Party 30
Democrats have spent years trying to demonize the agency, hammering it in speeches, hearings, and media appearances. But the numbers tell an awkward story for them.
Despite all that effort, the party itself is still less popular than the very institution it’s been attacking. In fact, on the list of public opinion figures, only a handful of entries rank lower in positive sentiment than the Democratic Party — including Gavin Newsom, artificial intelligence, and Iran.
And when it comes to overall net favorability, the comparison gets even rougher. The only entry with a worse rating than the Democratic Party on that list is Iran.
That’s not just bad polling. That’s brutal.
It’s not hard to understand why the Democrats are facing such low approval ratings, especially with leaders like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) at the helm. What have they really inspired other than feelings of disdain or even laughter? Those dismal poll numbers are certainly well-deserved. Their focus seems entirely centered on attacking Trump instead of offering any constructive solutions. A recent on-air moment with Bill Maher highlighted this perfectly when he caught Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) off guard, showing that Schiff’s stance on military action shifted depending on whether it was Trump or Barack Obama who proposed it.
And I can’t help but chuckle at Governor Newsom’s standing in the polls, particularly since he’s trailing behind Kamala Harris. That’s got to sting for him, especially considering his ambitions for 2028. It definitely doesn’t bode well for his future plans.
It’s becoming increasingly apparent that as more people see him on his book tour, their opinion of him is declining. Beyond the way he has mishandled California, he struggles to articulate his goals; he only mentions that he believes in justice and ideals from the 1960s. Additionally, his hand movements and gestures are even more distracting than those of Hakeem Jeffries.

Looking ahead to 2028, both Newsom and Harris have a lower net favorability rating than either Vice President JD Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio—two names often considered in discussions about the next presidential race.
