Newsom Just Tried Trolling Trump Over Gas Prices – From A State With Insane Gas Prices

Many members of the Democratic Party are criticizing Operation Epic Fury, the joint U.S.-Israel airstrikes that targeted Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and nearly the entire leadership of the Islamic Republic regime early Saturday morning. They have labeled the mission as “illegal,” “dangerous,” “criminal,” and have used numerous other negative terms from their thesaurus.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has long been rumored to be planning a presidential run, has seen his popularity decline significantly since 2026 due to a series of missteps. In an apparent attempt to leverage the overseas conflict to his advantage, he and his communications team decided to troll the president with a poorly received post.

This backfired spectacularly, resulting in significant backlash against the ‘pajama boy’ in Newsom’s team who thought it was super keen and cool.

One crucial piece of advice an advisor should give Newsom is to avoid mentioning gas prices, as California consistently has the highest prices in the nation – and by a considerable margin. Refineries are leaving California at an alarming rate, and even more residents may consider relocating if a proposed mileage tax is enacted.

However, his team, seemingly overconfident, just couldn’t resist the urge to make this bone-headed mistake:

Average gas prices in California have stayed below $5 for nearly two years.

Trump’s new war is already rattling markets.

We’re watching this space. Closely.

— Governor Newsom Press Office (@GovPressOffice) February 28, 2026

“We’re watching this space. Closely,” the official, taxpayer-funded Governor Newsom Press Office account said on X.

What “space,” exactly, will be watched? X feeds? Shouldn’t he be, like, running his state instead of doomscrolling all day on social media?

The governor might want to have a frank discussion with his team because if he continues to take such heavy hits online, he’ll soon be gasping for air. The response from the US Oil & Gas Association was impressive and completely justified:

Time to school the Pajama Boy who runs this account for the Gov – because this isn't the flex on Trump he thinks it is….

California imports 63% of is crude from foreign countries – despite sitting on at least 1.7 billion barrels of proven reserves.

According to the California Energy Commission here is the typical break down of where that foreign-sourced crude supplied to California refineries comes from:

Iraq: ~21%

Brazil: ~20%

Guyana: ~16%.

Ecuador: ~14%.

Colombia: ~6%

Canada: ~4%

Mexico: ~4%

United Arab Emirates (UAE): ~2%.

Others like Saudi Arabia will total the rest of the 100% foreign share.

The only state worried about rattling foreign markets is California because you have let yourselves become dependent on foreign supplies.

You’ve done this to yourselves.

Yikes. That’s gonna leave a mark.

California progressives, particularly Governor Hair Gel, brought this upon themselves and their residents.

For the record, this was Newsom’s California gas reality before Operation Epic Fury. Prices have dropped a bit in the Golden State—largely due to Trump being in office—but just take a look at the ridiculous energy policies and attack on reliable fuels that Gavin, Joe Biden, and their team threw at us in 2022:

Send to @Tobe_Duru and @MWMA_IND. This @NYPost story was published in May 2022.https://t.co/He9PsRIOsP

"Gas prices in California have soared to the point where some fueling stations are charging more than the federal minimum wage for a gallon of regular."

People are leaving.

— David the Republican (@BennytheKite) February 17, 2026

There are certain topics that Newsom should not boast about: homelessness, affordability, betrayal, and, of course, gas prices. Someone might want to inform his communications team.

Gas in California is nearly $2 more per gallon than the national average

Gavin Newsom and his incompetent press team worrying about gas prices is the absolute height of comedy https://t.co/ICfqJv0Y47

That’s spot-on.
