California Gov. Gavin Newsom is having a rough week. Addressing a room full of Black attendees, he remarked that he relates to them because of his low SAT scores and struggles with reading—this was not only cringeworthy but also deeply offensive. If Trump had made such comments, he would likely face impeachment.
Newsom has found himself in the spotlight for more than just this incident; he also claimed to have had a tough upbringing despite coming from an upper-class background, while trying to highlight his reported dyslexia for some reason. It’s been quite the spectacle for him:
Gavin Newsom is absolutely KILLING IT with the black crowd in Georgia:
"I am like you. I'm a 960 SAT guy. I can't read. Hopefully that doesn’t offend you.”
Yikes.

Regardless of the situation, remarks like “I can’t read well, so I’m black like you” have annoyed several leaders within the black community. For instance, Cornel West criticized Gavin’s comments, asserting that they echo a paradigm of white supremacy.
Brother Newsom could’ve taken a humanistic approach! He could’ve said, “I’m just like you. I was born of a woman. I’ll face loss, pain, and death just like anyone else.” But instead, when he thinks of Black people, he brings up low SAT scores. That mindset sits at the core of… pic.twitter.com/cwRH6wEyKY

You really can’t make this stuff up. Now, I’m not a fan of Newsom at all, but labeling him a white supremacist is just ridiculous. He might be a bad governor, but a member of the Klan? Absolutely not. That said, the reactions to this are quite amusing.
And Gavin, that little remark of yours was a complete train wreck.
One final thought. West claimed that Newsom’s remarks were ‘the same as what comes from the Trump administration when they attack DEI.’ Oh, please. Giving someone an upper hand because they are black or some other minority is the definition of racism, and our Constitution forbids that.
Mislabeling opposition to DEI as ‘racism’ is purposeful, by the way, because that’s the language of the left: Always blame your opponent for what you are doing.
