If nothing else, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani – well, really, every socialist everywhere – is so lacking in self-awareness and so unable to ‘read a room’ that its breathtaking.
In another example highlighting the absurdity of excessive government control, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing criticism for a rule that mandates emergency snow shovelers to present two forms of identification in order to help clear the streets during a severe storm.
The situation is so ridiculous that even CNN’s Jake Tapper took the opportunity to challenge Mamdani on it. In a recent segment, Tapper highlighted the criticisms from Republicans regarding Mamdani’s requirement for two forms of ID to shovel snow, while being a staunch critic of voter ID laws that mandate one form of ID for voting in federal elections. When confronted with this contradiction, Mamdani crumbled under pressure like a sandcastle swept away by a tsunami.

“Well, here in New York City, we follow the law, and it’s federal law to require certain forms of identification in order for someone to actually be paid for this a job,” he said. “And so that’s what we’re asking for, two forms of identification. It’s a long-standing city program. It’s a long-standing city policy.”
‘Uh, yeah, uh, you know, we’re just doin’ what we’re told around here, man.’

Really, though, is he?
Individuals applying for the snow shoveling program must present two original forms of ID, copies of those IDs, and their Social Security card in order to qualify, according to the Denver Gazette. Joshua Goodman, DSNY deputy commissioner of public affairs, told Fox News Digital that New York City “has a legal obligation under federal law to verify work authorization and maintain proper documentation before issuing payment.”
Federal law does not explicitly mandate two forms of identification; rather, it requires just one form of ID along with additional documentation to verify citizenship. This differs from the requirements set by the city.
Critics have called out Mamdani for what they see as hypocrisy, highlighting that he supports ID requirements for essential — yet temporary — snow shoveling jobs, while he and his party argue that needing ID to vote is akin to reviving Jim Crow laws.
Former Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon labeled Mamdani’s position as monstrously hypocritical.
Hypocrisy Alert: ? NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani is asking New Yorkers to help shovel snow, but you have to register.
Here’s the catch:

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said if Mamdani “supports showing ID to shovel snow, Senate Democrats ought to support showing ID to vote.”
If Zohran Mamdani supports showing ID to shovel snow, Senate Democrats ought to support showing ID to vote.

It’s worth noting that the ID rule was already in place before Mamdani took office. However, his ongoing support for it, while joining Democrats in a dramatic portrayal of Bull Connor seemingly rising from the grave to obstruct black voters, underscores what many people already recognize about Democrats: they hardly ever mean what they say, and they seem immune to the absurdity of their positions.
