Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is really playing to the crowd with his latest move. He’s always had a knack for pandering, but this time it might backfire spectacularly. His attempt to garner support from the LGBTSWTFBBQ+++ community could ignite backlash from everyone who has proudly served under the American flag or any of our military branches—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. What’s sparked this reaction? Schumer is advocating for a bill that would position the Pride flag on equal status with the Stars and Stripes and the flags of our service branches.
Not just no, but hell no:
New York Sen. Chuck Schumer has filed a bill to give the pride flag the same legal standing as the U.S. flag and military banners.
The proposal, which faces long odds in the Republican-controlled Congress, comes in response to a simmering dispute over the Trump administration’s decision to remove an LGBTQ pride flag from Stonewall National Monument in New York City.
Schumer said Stonewall is “sacred ground and Congress must act now to permanently protect the Pride flag and what it stands for” by granting federal protections that would allow it to be flown outside government buildings, and National Park sites.
“Trump’s hateful crusade must end,” Schumer said in a statement. “The very core of American identity is liberty and justice for all – and that is what this legislation would protect: each national park’s ability to make their own decision about what flag can be flown.”
“Long odds.” Ya think? This bill is unlikely to make it past the first Senate waste bin it encounters, and honestly, that’s how it should be. However, pay attention to what the Senate Minority Leader is trying to achieve; he is essentially elevating the static banner of activists to the same level as our national flag. That is simply unacceptable.

This controversy stems from the heated debate over the removal of a pride flag from the Stonewall National Monument. And rightly so; national monuments should exclusively display the American flag. Military sites and installations should only fly the American flag along with the flag of the service(s) being honored. Nothing more.
Yet, that’s not how Democrats perceive it:
Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal, who joined other Democrats in re-raising the flag last week, is among those who support Schumer’s proposal. He said the legislation “protects our legacy, our dignity, and the generations who will look to Stonewall as proof that progress, once won, must be defended.”
“Authorizing the Pride flag in federal law is about more than symbolism, it’s about permanence,” he said in a statement. “It sends a clear message that LGBTQ+ history is not subject to political whims and that our visibility cannot be stripped away. Civil rights landmarks should not be vulnerable to shifting administrations.”
BS. The message is clear: this is a national monument of the United States of America, and only the American flag should be displayed there. No other flags are permitted—no banners from activist groups, no pride flags, no flags representing Hamas, and no Antifa flags. The rule is straightforward: only the United States flag flies over national monuments. No exceptions for activist banners are allowed, regardless of the circumstances.
Need another reason to head out and vote in this year’s midterms? Here’s one more compelling reason to consider. It’s time to start planning, because we need to get this done.
Meantime, imagine being an American citizen and member of a party that works every second of every day to destroy the history and traditions that made the country great to begin with.
