RINOs were always a nuisance to true Republican voters, but in the age of MAGA – that hyper-partisan push to make all things “America and Americans first” – their refusal to back issues that are paramount to protect the future of our great nation is intolerable.
Once again, Lisa Murkowski proves that when the moment calls for resolve, she prefers retreat.
When Republicans attempt to advance core priorities — in this case, election integrity — Murkowski predictably drifts toward the faction of senators known less for leadership and more for obstruction. On an issue as fundamental as who gets to vote in American elections, wavering isn’t nuance. It’s abdication.
The SAVE Act is not some fringe proposal. It centers on a simple principle: only American citizens should vote in American elections. That used to be a baseline assumption, not a controversial stance. So why oppose it? Why leave even the perception of vulnerability in the system? Why signal that safeguarding voter rolls is negotiable?

This isn’t a procedural quibble. It’s foundational to public trust. Election integrity remains a top priority for Republican voters, and backing away at the eleventh hour sends a clear message — whether intended or not:
Lisa Murkowski of Alaska on Tuesday became the first Republican senator to speak out against the SAVE Act, a sweeping election bill backed by President Donald Trump that would require proof of citizenship to vote nationwide.
In doing so, she reminded her colleagues that they roundly claimed to oppose new federal election laws as recently as Joe Biden’s presidency.
“When Democrats attempted to advance sweeping election reform legislation in 2021, Republicans were unanimous in opposition because it would have federalized elections, something we have long opposed,” Murkowski said in a statement. “Now, I’m seeing proposals such as the SAVE Act and MEGA that would effectively do just that. Once again, I do not support these efforts.”
Under current law, all U.S. voters must attest under oath that they are citizens, with criminal penalties for lying. Beyond that, states can set their own rules.
The SAVE Act would bar states from registering people to vote unless they provide documents or evidence proving U.S. citizenship. It would also require all Americans to present ID when they go to vote.
The legislation, introduced by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, has 48 GOP co-sponsors, and Trump has repeatedly called on Congress to pass it in recent days. Even if it gains a majority of the Senate, it is subject to the 60-vote threshold, and Democrats have vowed to block it.
The other part of this story is that, of course, Democrats are opposed to anything resembling election integrity and proof of citizenship to vote because we all know why: They use non-citizens to cheat and steal electoral power.
But for a Republican – any Republican – to oppose this is unforgiveable.
The RINOs have got to go, period. We have a country to save and we can’t have spineless losers like Murkowski standing in the way.
