If you needed proof that Zohran Mamdani’s leadership is collapsing under its own weight, look no further than the internal meltdown among his allies.

A major power outage hit New York City amid a brutal cold snap — and instead of offering reassurance or a plan, Mamdani got blasted not by conservatives, not by pundits, but by another member of the Democratic Socialists of America, City Councilwoman Shahana Hanif, representing Brooklyn. That’s right: even the far-left grassroots who helped elect him are openly criticizing his response.

“This is becoming unmanageable,” she wrote on X, Monday. “@ConEdison is now projecting 7 PM restoration after estimating 7 AM earlier today. These shifting timelines make it impossible for people to plan—families with toddlers, residents working from home, and those relying on charged devices.”

She went on to list some immediate needs for her residents. “1. A local warming center — PS 133 is no longer available since school is in session.” and “2. Traffic enforcement along St. Mark’s Place and 4th Ave, especially northbound toward Atlantic Ave, where outages are creating serious safety risks.”

“We need urgent coordination and clear communication from @NYCMayorsOffice / @NYCMayor, @nycemergencymgt, and @ConEdison,” she added. “Residents deserve better.”

In addition, more city council members chimed in to rag on Mamdani.

“.@NYCMayor we need your help in finding temporary placement for residents who have been impacted by Sunday’s snowstorm caused blackout,” Councilman Ossé wrote on X, urging Mamdani to step in and use taxpayer funds to secure hotel rooms for families left without heat.

“Our city is working around the clock to keep people safe during this cold snap,” Mamdani wrote on X. “This weekend, we opened up new single-room shelter units to give more homeless New Yorkers a place to sleep and launched more warming units to meet people where they are.”

“Along with outreach teams and warming centers, we are using every to tool to get people safely inside. If you see someone who needs help, please call 311,” he added.

But of course, this is the same mayor who’s ‘let homeless stay on the streets‘ policy resulted in nearly a dozen deaths from cold exposure last week.

As the winter chill sets in, the homeless in New York City are often seen gathered around manhole covers, seeking warmth. Meanwhile, the city streets have transformed into a hazardous area, littered with filthy snow and overflowing trash. Critics have voiced their strong disapproval of Mamdani’s response to the winter storm and the disorder it has caused.

Who could have seen this coming? [add sarcasm here]

For months, progressives have gushed over Mamdani’s “transformative agenda” while ignoring the basic housekeeping duties of governing. But when the heat literally goes out in people’s homes, slogans stop mattering and competence becomes unmistakably clear — or absent.

This outspoken DSA critique is more than a grumble from the fringe. It’s an indictment of a mayor who campaigned on anti-establishment passion but couldn’t deliver on the fundamentals of public safety and infrastructure. When even your ideological allies seize the moment to throw you under the bus, that’s not just awkward — it’s a sign of fracture.

New York City is freezing. Residents are scrambling for solutions. And the mayor who promised to represent the “authentic voices of the people” is finding that even those voices are turning against him.
