Democrats appear determined to keep pouring gasoline on the anti-ICE chaos. In the aftermath of Saturday’s Border Patrol shooting in Minneapolis, they’re now threatening to torpedo a bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security itself — effectively punishing federal law enforcement for doing its job.
Instead of calling for calm or waiting for the facts, Senate Democrats rushed out statements signaling they’ll block DHS funding altogether, using the tragedy as political leverage while disorder spreads on the streets.
Even Democrats who previously helped avert a government shutdown are now falling in line with the anti-ICE frenzy. Several of the eight Democrats who voted with Republicans to end the last shutdown — including Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen of Nevada — abruptly turned against the bill after the Minneapolis shooting.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer then escalated the situation further, issuing a statement that blamed President Donald Trump and effectively threatened to block the entire appropriations package if it includes funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

The message from Democratic leadership is clear: they’re willing to jeopardize national security and border enforcement to appease their activist base and keep the chaos going:
This all but assures a government shutdown at the end of the month. https://t.co/qRBxqm2ama

Schumer:
“What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling —and unacceptable in any American city. Democrats sought common sense reforms in the Department of Homeland Security spending bill, but because of Republicans’ refusal to stand up to President Trump, the DHS bill is woefully inadequate to rein in the abuses of ICE. I will vote no,”
“Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included.”
Democrats are once again proving they’re more interested in political posturing than actual solutions. After already pumping billions into immigration enforcement under the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” they now want to torpedo the latest appropriations bill — the same one that would finally give Border Patrol and ICE body cameras and other transparency tools they’ve been demanding. If they vote against it, they’re literally voting against the oversight they claim to want.
And it gets worse: by threatening to block DHS funding, they’re not just targeting immigration agents — they’re threatening core functions of the federal government. As Fox News reporter Bill Melugin noted, failing to pass the bill would hurt the Transportation Security Administration and FEMA, agencies unrelated to the Minneapolis incidents.
? JUST IN: The DHS funding bill includes $10 billion set to pass by month’s end — with $20M for body cameras and no mask-removal requirement.

None of this chaos would be happening if Democrats hadn’t spent months refusing to cooperate with the federal government and encouraging open hostility toward ICE and Border Patrol. From the moment the Minneapolis shooting occurred, leading Democrats wasted no time fueling the unrest, urging federal agents to withdraw and stoking anti-ICE sentiment instead of calming the situation. Their rhetoric didn’t just invite protests — it helped turn them into confrontations that put both civilians and federal agents in danger, with little regard for the consequences.
Now, when federal agents are doing exactly what Congress authorized them to do, Democrats are trying to pin the blame on the Trump administration — that’s not leadership, that’s political theater. And it’s beyond despicable.
But it gets worse: rather than support funding the Department of Homeland Security so Border Patrol, ICE, TSA and FEMA can do their jobs, they’re threatening to block the bill outright unless they get their way.
They are willingly jeopardizing national security and government operations simply to hurt Trump and Republicans ahead of the midterms, even if it means undermining the very rule of law they claim to stand for.
