A number of Democrat-led states have gotten the idea that they have more power than they actually do when it comes to ‘limiting’ federal law enforcement within their borders. They are, as they said, ‘fooling around,’ and if they’re not careful, they’re gonna ‘find out’ this isn’t a great idea.
Several blue states are once again moving to undermine federal law enforcement, pushing new restrictions on how Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers can do their jobs. Rather than support agents tasked with enforcing immigration law, progressive lawmakers are exploiting a tragic shooting in Minneapolis to score political points and weaken ICE from the inside.
The death of Renee Good has been weaponized to fuel protests and outrage against President Donald Trump’s deportation agenda, an agenda the Left falsely brands as “aggressive” simply because it enforces the law. Instead of addressing illegal immigration and rising disorder in their own cities, Democratic leaders are choosing to vilify ICE, embolden activists, and make already dangerous enforcement operations even harder — all in service of an ideological crusade against border security and national sovereignty.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul supports a bill allowing individuals to sue federal officials for violating their constitutional rights. While this is already permitted for state and local officials, it is not currently allowed for federal officials.
In her State of the State address, Hochul explained that the measure “doesn’t interfere with lawful enforcement or public safety,” but “affirms a core truth: Power does not justify abuse.”
She added, “And if someone’s constitutional rights are violated here in the state of New York, I say they deserve their day in court.”
New Jersey lawmakers have enacted three bills to limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities. These bills designate schools, courts, health care facilities, and churches as “sensitive locations” where individuals “should not be deterred from seeking services.”
Another bill would prevent state agencies from sharing sensitive personal data with federal immigration authorities and further limit local cooperation with ICE operations.
The New Jersey Legislature has passed a bill that prohibits ICE from detaining individuals solely based on their immigration status, restricts ICE access to jails, and limits the sharing of related data.

California has already passed similar laws and its lawmakers are advancing the No Kings Act, which enables residents to sue federal officers for violating the First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendments. “This bill makes one simple principle real again, that no one is above the Constitution,” said state Sen. Scott Wiener, a Democrat.
The Constitution contains what is known as the “Supremacy Clause,” and it basically says federal law trumps state and local laws. So I’m not sure what these new blue state laws are supposed to accomplish other that providing some performative political cover for the Democrats pushing them.
But taken another direction, this could also be the start of a legitimate insurrection of the kind Democrats pushed in 1861 so they could keep their slaves. And we all know how that turned out.
