Trump’s DOJ Takes Another Big Step Towards Making Elections Fair, Secure

President Trump has been very vocal regarding his feelings about how he believes he lost the 2020 election – in large part through widespread fraud made possible by the first mass use of mail-in ballots. These ballots were mailed out willy-nilly to everyone on every voter registration list, but the problem was (and remains) these lists were grossly outdated, poorly maintained, and full of names of people who were dead, in the country illegally, had moved to another jurisdiction, etc.

Just today, we reported that the Georgia State Election Board’s investigation confirmed that Fulton County violated election regulations in 2020 by failing to have poll workers sign the required tabulation tapes for early votes in 36 out of 37 advanced voting precincts. This oversight affected about 315,000 ballots.

Now the Trump administration is ramping up pressure on states to produce their (likely bogus) voter registration rolls less than a year from the 2026 midterms.

On Friday, the Justice Department filed lawsuits Thursday against three states and Washington, D.C. after they failed to comply with requests from the Trump administration for voting data. Wisconsin, Illinois, Georgia, and the District of Columbia are now facing legal action as part of a broader White House effort to obtain information it argues is necessary to ensure transparency and accountability in federal elections. The refusal by these jurisdictions to cooperate has only intensified concerns about resistance to oversight in states and localities run almost exclusively by Democrats:

The latest lawsuits were filed against Wisconsin, Illinois, Georgia and the District of Columbia. The Justice Department has now filed 22 lawsuits seeking voter information as part of its effort to collect detailed voting data and other election information across the country.

“We shared our nation-leading list maintenance practices and public voter roll data with the DOJ December 8 at their request, and we look forward to working together to eliminate the federal barriers that prevent even cleaner voter rolls,” Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said in a statement. “Hardworking Georgians can rest easy knowing this data was shared strictly in accordance with state law that protect voters’ privacy.”

The latest round comes one week after the bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission voted against the Justice Department’s request for the data. Both Republican and Democratic commissioners voiced concerns about the request last week, saying it would be illegal under Wisconsin law to provide the voter roll information that includes the full names, dates of birth, residential addresses and driver’s license numbers of voters.

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said the Justice Department should be “serving the interests of the American people, not chasing conspiracy theories.”

“As has been demonstrated over and over and over again, Wisconsin’s elections are fair and conducted with integrity,” Kaul said.

The Trump administration sought voter data to tackle issues of “vote dilution” and to streamline voter rolls. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon emphasized the necessity of having complete, unredacted voter information to uphold federal election integrity laws. She stated that identifying ineligible or duplicate registrations is crucial for maintaining “accurate voter lists,” ensuring that “every vote counts equally.”

Additionally, the Justice Department has already passed along data it received from various states to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS has been utilizing this information with the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database to identify illegal immigrants.

NEW?: The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to obtain access to the state’s voter rolls.

The revelation from the Georgia State Election Board about the lack of legally required signatures from poll workers plays right into Trump’s accusations about Tom Foolery during the 2020 election in Democrat-held regions of the country. The refusal by mostly blue jurisdictions to hand over voter registration lists to see if they’re even accurate (as required by law) does as well.

Team Trump is obviously dedicated to ensuring that Americans can trust the voting results moving forward, but it’s very telling the administration is getting pushback from the Donkey Party.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
