Listening to Democrats attack Donald Trump has become less alarming than it is revealing. Their criticisms routinely miss the mark, and increasingly fail to resonate. At this stage, Trump’s most serious challenges are self-inflicted—along with the inevitable passage of time and the perennial dysfunction within the GOP. Democrats, meanwhile, appear more focused on grievance and theatrics than on governing, hastening their own slide into political irrelevance. With leadership that feels second-rate at best, the party is struggling to make a credible case to voters.
Even allowing for the unpredictability of a midterm election cycle, it is difficult to see how a party hovering near an 18 percent approval rating mounts a serious victory in November.
CNN’s Harry Enten delivered a devastating assessment of the Democratic Party with a recent poll showing a staggering minus-55 net approval rating—an all-time low. Enten described it as “lower than the Dead Sea,” and the numbers back him up: this is the worst approval rating the party has ever recorded. Compounding the problem, Democrats are underwater with independent voters by an astonishing 61 points, a warning sign no serious political operation can afford to ignore.

“The effect? Democrats’ lead on the generic ballot is less than half of what it was at this point in the 2006 and 2018 cycles,” Enten wrote in a tweet along with a video containing his report on CNN:
Cong Dems now have a -55 net approval, an all-time low & lower than the Dead Sea.
2 causes: Dems gives them a -6 pt net approval(!), & they're at -61 pts with indies!

Enten cautioned Democrats that it’s premature to celebrate and declare victory just yet. The numbers are quite weak, it’s still early in the game, and Democrats mainly seem to resort to whining and shouting in front of voters.
This election is really the GOP’s to lose.
