Well, now, just when you thought you’d heard former Vice President Kamala Harris utter the most absurd, stupid thing any person anywhere could ever say, she comes back and says, “Hold my beer.” Or wine. Or whatever it is she loves to slam down.
What did she say? Well, only that the Biden Justice Department was truly “independent.” And for the most unbeilievable reason: The Epstein Files.
The same Department of Justice which tried to prosecute its main political rival on two occasions, is somehow ‘independent’? This is the same DOJ that has imprisoned pro-life activists after conducting early morning raids on their homes. It’s also the same DOJ that labeled parents voicing concerns about DEI and CRT policies at school board meetings as potential domestic terrorists. Furthermore, this is the department that considered attendance at the traditional Latin Mass as a possible sign of radical anti-government sentiment. Let’s not forget the surveillance of Senate Republicans—does that sound like the behavior of an “independent” Department of Justice?

Let’s give Jimmy Kimmel some credit for bringing up an important question. As far as I know, he’s the first prominent media figure to ask Harris why the Biden administration sat on these files for four years. It’s interesting that the demand for full transparency only gained traction when a Republican administration took over the Department of Justice. Harris’s response was a bit disjointed, as she stumbled through a somewhat confusing explanation that hinted the current DoJ was too closely tied to the president to be trusted with disclosing the Epstein files:
Kamala explains that the reason the Biden DoJ didn’t release the Epstein files is simply b/c the DoJ was so independent from the White House pic.twitter.com/7mJiJlljVN

Mediaite noted as well:
Pressed on why the Biden administration itself did not push for disclosure while in office, particularly during an election cycle dominated by Trump, Harris acknowledged the political cost but insisted the separation was deliberate.
“To give you an answer that will not satisfy your curiosity, I will tell you, we, perhaps to our damage, but we strongly and rightly believed that there should be an absolute separation between what we wanted as an administration and what the Department of Justice did. We absolutely adhered to that and it was right to do that,” she replied.
She added: “The Justice Department would make its decisions independent of any political or personal vendetta or or concern that we may have and that’s the way it worked.”
Enter an entire line of those goofy laughing emojis here.
It seems fitting that this moment unfolded during a failed, canceled ‘comedy’ show, ignited by a question from a conspiracy theorist, and answered by someone who seems to have squandered any remaining political credibility with her recent memoir, “107 Days.” The culmination of blame-shifting—or perhaps its lowest point—occurred in a setting that was simply perfect in its irony. Not even The View could have captured this scene with such stark comedic relief.
In fact, this response sharpens Kimmel’s question even further. Why didn’t the Democrats release the Epstein files during Biden’s tenure? After all, it was the Trump Department of Justice that reopened the case in 2019, leading to the indictments of both Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell for their involvement in sex trafficking. While Epstein took the easy way out, the Trump DoJ, under William Barr, prosecuted Maxwell and secured a 20-year prison sentence for her.
If those files contained anything damaging about Trump, and if the Barr-led DoJ was as corrupt as Harris suggests, why would they have taken the risk of going public at all? They could have easily dismissed the Epstein case by arguing that Alex Acosta’s plea deal was binding across all federal jurisdictions. At that time, the Trump DoJ had to challenge that argument in appeals before Epstein’s death and Maxwell’s eventual arrest following her failed attempt to vanish.
By the time Biden and Merrick Garland assumed office, the case against Maxwell had essentially been handed to them on a silver platter by Barr’s Department of Justice. After Maxwell’s conviction in December 2021, Biden and Garland could have released the information that is now surfacing at any point. So why didn’t they? It’s not because Garland and the Biden administration prioritized political independence; rather, it’s likely that there’s nothing in those files that would politically benefit them. It’s also probable that the contents wouldn’t harm them or other Democrats either; it seems likely to be a non-issue in that regard.
Now, Harris is attempting to complicate matters by claiming that the Department of Justice will hide information to protect Trump. First and foremost, that’s going to be a tough sell, considering the nature of grand-jury materials and the judicial oversight involved. Federal judges will undoubtedly become involved in the necessary redactions aimed at protecting victims in the Epstein trafficking case. Moreover, the fact that Garland and Biden have kept these files under wraps for four years speaks volumes about Harris’ absurd effort to fan the flames of conspiracy theories surrounding the Epstein scandal. In this respect, Harris has chosen the perfect platform to launch her disjointed campaign.
That Kamala. She’ll be an unserious clown show until the very end.
