Well, it happened. And I’m going to just come right out and say, I hate that it did.
The Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Dan Bongino, a former conservative commentator and Secret Service agent, revealed on Wednesday that he will resign from his present position. He shared his decision on his official account on X:
I will be leaving my position with the FBI in January. I want to thank President Trump, AG Bondi, and Director Patel for the opportunity to serve with purpose. Most importantly, I want to thank you, my fellow Americans, for the privilege to serve you.

Also on Wednesday, President Donald Trump was asked about the announcement:
? BREAKING: President Trump says FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino likely wants to go back to his show
“Dan did a great job. I think he wants to go back to his show.”

“Dan? Dan did a great job. I think he wants to go back to his show,” the president said.
When Bongino took the FBI role, his position on the Westwood network radio show was occupied by a commentator based in Washington, D.C., named Vince Coglianese. It remains uncertain how straightforward it would be for Bongino to come back to broadcasting, although his notoriety and recent prominent background suggest that it may be plausible.
Starting last June, there were whispers regarding Bongino’s potential dissatisfaction with his role at the FBI, along with speculation about an upcoming exit. That’s when the FBI and Justice Department brought in another “co-deputy director,” then-Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey.

The Hill reported this on Wednesday:
Bongino has reportedly had misgivings about the job since at least July, when he clashed with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of the Epstein files. Bongino reportedly weighed quitting at the time amid frustration with the lack of transparency in the case.
This is a mainstream, left-leaning publication and there are the usual “anonymous sources” sprinkled in, so there’s no way of knowing if that is true.

We can confirm that Dan Bongino has declared his exit and has done so with grace. That is sufficient. We ought to express our gratitude to Dan Bongino for his contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavors following his exit from public service.
I hate to see him go but I wish him all the luck.
