For years, Democrats swore up and down that illegal immigrants weren’t receiving government-funded health care like Medicaid or Medicare. It’s against the law, they said. No one is above the law, they lectured.
Of course, it was all a lie — and they knew it.
Democrats denied the reality for two simple reasons: first, because openly admitting they were giving taxpayer-funded health care to illegal immigrants would infuriate voters; and second, because they needed a fake talking point to claim that Medicaid reforms in the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) would hurt Americans who actually depend on the program.
Here’s the inconvenient truth they tried to bury: the OBBB cuts were aimed squarely at Medicaid spending for illegal immigrants — the very benefits Democrats insisted didn’t exist. You can’t cut something that isn’t there… unless it was there all along.
Now the mask is off. Speaker Mike Johnson has put California Gov. Gavin Newsom — the Democrats’ shiny presumptive 2028 presidential hopeful — on full display for doing exactly what his party denied for years: funneling taxpayer-funded health care to illegal immigrants.
Johnson wrote on X along with a video showing several Democrats repeatedly lying about the issue:

The video begins a montage of media figures and Democrats saying illegals don’t receive taxpayer-funded healthcare.
“People who are here in the United States illegally have never been eligible for the Obamacare subsidies, for Medicare, or for Medicaid,” said CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. “So what exactly are you saying that they’re trying to do when you talk about giving free healthcare?”
Next up is Jake Tapper, also grilling Johnson about illegal immigrants and taxpayer-funded healthcare. “So just as a point of fact,” Tapper said, “it’s against the law for non-citizens to get those subsidies.”
“Undocumented immigrants, as you know, are actually ineligible for federal healthcare…Right now, undocumented immigrants are not eligible for federal healthcare programs. Democrats, as you heard, say they’re not trying to change that,” said Meet the Press host Kristen Welker.
The video also featured Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Senator Mark Kelly, all of whom conveyed a similar message.
However, Gavin Newsom completely undermined their argument by boasting about providing taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal aliens.
“As it relates to undoc healthcare, yeah, I’m proud of that, because I believe in universal healthcare,” Newsom said. “You know, others may say it, I did it. First state in the country, regardless of preexisting conditions, ability to pay, and regardless of your immigration status. I promised that, I promoted it, I ran three times on it. I did it when I was mayor. People know who I am.”
Again, another point of emphasis as to why it is so important for President Trump to continue his mass deportation effort: Americans have spent untold trillions of dollars accommodating people who have no legal right to be in our country…for decades.
