President Trump delivered more than an economic message Tuesday night in Pennsylvania — he delivered hope. In the middle of his remarks, the president paused to share a powerful and deeply human update about West Virginia National Guardsman Andrew Wolfe, who was shot in the horrific Washington, D.C., terror attack just before Thanksgiving.
Trump told the crowd he had just gotten off the phone with Wolfe’s mother, who tearfully relayed her son’s remarkable progress after nearly being killed by an Afghan national who never should have been in this country in the first place. Her update was nothing short of inspiring — a testament to her son’s strength, his family’s faith, and a reminder of the real-world consequences of the Biden-era chaos Trump inherited and is now working to clean up.
The attack left Army National Guard soldier Sarah Beckstrom dead.

“In D.C., we had a tragic incident, as you know, with the two incredible people…Sarah and Andrew. Sarah passed away,” President Trump said. “She’s looking at us from Heaven, from above. And Andrew’s the second one, who was also from the West Virginia National Guard. Incredible people.”
“And his mother’s named Monica. And Monica’s the most positive person I’ve ever seen….And today, I got a call that he got up from bed. Do you believe that? He got up,” he added, as the crowd roared with cheers and applause. “Now he didn’t speak. He’s not ready for that yet…but he got up and boy, they’re so happy,” Trump continued. “It’s amazing…Andrew stood up today, and people can’t even believe it, so… let’s hope it continues.
Trump also said Monica commented on the “level of love” and care her son had received at the hands of the staff and military members who have stopped in to check on him. Sarah’s parents said the same thing, too. News of Andrew getting up out of bed is truly a miracle, given the last update we had, which was from West Virginia Republican Governor Patrick Morrisey, who shared eight days ago that Wolfe had responded to a nurse who asked him a question, but was still fighting for his life.
We’ve received positive news about SSgt. Andrew Wolfe. He was able to give a “thumbs up” when prompted by the nurse, and wiggled his toes. We continue asking for prayers for his recovery. pic.twitter.com/2CxZFftFGj

“Andrew remains in serious condition,” Morrisey said during a recent press conference. “We did get some positive news that we were told that Andrew was asked if he could hear the nurse who asked the question to give a thumbs up, and he did respond. We were told that he also wiggled his toes. So we take that as a positive sign.”
Earlier, the governor called for the prayers to continue for Andrew.
“I think that the West Virginia people are strong and they know that everything is being done right now to ensure that justice is served,” the governor added. “But equally important, we have to do everything possible to send prayers and to console people who are going through just unspeakable times right now.”
