We’ve all seen politicians try to spin their way out of trouble, but every now and then, a Democrat manages to own-goal his own party so perfectly that it practically makes the Republican case for us. That’s exactly what happened with Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA).
When we last checked in, Warner appeared to be harmonizing with the “Seditious Six,” making remarks that sounded uncomfortably close to endorsing a military coup against President Donald Trump.
The comments came amid the media-manufactured “drug boat” controversy. Warner — who, remember, is the Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee — responded by saying, “I think in many ways, the uniformed military may help save us from this president and his lame people like Hegseth.”
He offered no clarification whatsoever on what “saving us” might mean. And when a top Democrat suggests the military should somehow “save” the country from a sitting, duly elected president… well, he’s not undermining Trump so much as proving Republicans’ point.
On Thursday, Warner was back in front of a camera — this time reacting to the DOJ’s announcement that an arrest had finally been made in the J6 pipe bomb case. While he grudgingly admitted the development was “good news,” he immediately shifted into partisan spin, questioning why anyone would take a “victory lap.”
Then came the real tell: Warner openly speculated that the case might have been solved sooner if the Trump administration hadn’t “diverted” federal resources to illegal immigration enforcement.
In other words, according to the Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, securing the border — one of the federal government’s most basic responsibilities — is somehow a distraction from solving domestic terrorism cases:
But I got to tell you, it kind of makes me — looking at this crowd, doing a victory lap, when all the senior FBI officials across all key divisions have been fired for political purposes, when in some field offices, up to 45% of the FBI officers who were doing things like counter espionage and cyber have been assigned to do immigration cases.
It’s a little rich that they’re saying they [make] America safer. How much earlier could we have caught this guy if resources hadn’t been diverted?
This is truly beyond moronic, especially when we now know (and, likely, Warner knew long ago) that the Biden Bros. at the FBI legitimately sat on this evidence for years and years and years.

It kinda makes me "crazy" to see the Justice Department treating the arrest of the pipe bomber suspect as a "victory lap."

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) voiced what a lot of people were already thinking: did Sen. Warner even bother to consider that the Biden–Harris administration had four full years to investigate the pipe bomb case before President Trump returned to office?
Your Democratic party controlled FEDS had it for 4 years. @FBIDirectorKash and #Bongino had it for 9 months and solved it. https://t.co/5l89x4iOaJ

And let’s be honest: maybe the “investigation” that supposedly happened under Biden would have actually gone somewhere if the DOJ and FBI hadn’t spent years obsessing over prosecuting pro-lifers, monitoring churchgoers, and targeting fed-up parents at school board meetings. If Sen. Warner wants to talk about “diverting resources,” he may want to start there.
Warner’s slip-up — essentially admitting the Biden-era inquiry was a bust — only reinforces the point made by FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino during the arrest announcement. Bongino noted that this is exactly what happens when there’s a president in office who prioritizes law and order and is actually focused on catching criminals, not political opponents:
“Folks, this is what it’s like when you work for a president who tells you to get the bad guys and to stop focusing on other extraneous things not related to law enforcement. This is what happens.”
“We had a great team. […] It was not a new public tip this came from. This was our own internal work at the FBI.”
