Afghanistan remains one of the most backward, unstable countries on Earth — I can say that having spent a year there deployed with my Army National Guard battalion. And yet the Biden administration brought thousands of Afghan nationals into the United States with minimal screening and little meaningful vetting. They were rushed in and released across the country, despite the obvious security risks and the complete lack of accountability for who these individuals were or what threats they might pose.
That reckless policy is now bearing bitter fruit. In the latest installment of “We Caught Another Afghan Terrorist in the United States,” we learned Thursday that Immigration & Customs Enforcement has picked up yet another Afghan national — this one with alleged ties to ISIS-K.
The pattern isn’t subtle anymore; it’s exactly what happens when an administration prioritizes political optics over basic national security:
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have arrested Afghan national Jaan Shah Safi, an alleged ISIS-K supporter brought into the country under former President Joe Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome, in Waynesboro, Virginia.
Safi was arrested as President Donald Trump and his administration confront a surge of terror cases tied to Afghan arrivals that occurred under the Biden administration.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Wednesday that Safi arrived in the U.S. on Sept. 8, 2021, in Philadelphia.
He applied for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), though his application was terminated when DHS Secretary Kristi Noem ended TPS for Afghans.
Safi is reportedly a supporter of ISIS-K — the Islamic State’s brutal Khorasan offshoot operating in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the surrounding region. ISIS-K is among the most vicious Islamist terror groups on the planet, yet the Biden administration allowed one of its sympathizers to waltz straight into the United States. It’s another glaring example of how disastrously the administration’s rushed, unvetted Afghan intake has compromised national security.
Afghanistan has long been known as the “graveyard of empires.” The British learned it, the Soviets learned it, even the Mongols learned it. Eventually, the United States learned it too — and withdrew.
Yet the Biden administration seemed determined to import that same graveyard of empires into our own country.
Is it really an outdated idea that the United States should admit only those who will positively contribute to the nation? Is it somehow extreme to suggest that we shouldn’t bring in anyone from anywhere without verifying who they are — especially when “refugee” status can be claimed without proof?
That’s exactly what the Biden administration did: opened the door, waived the vetting, and hoped for the best. And now Americans are living – and dying – with the consequences:
The DHS accused the Biden administration of relying on unvetted referrals to admit nearly 190,000 Afghan nationals into the U.S.
The Trump administration put a stop to Afghan refugee resettlement after Trump returned to the Oval Office in January because it saw the program as a massive threat to national security.
Safi’s arrest marks the third of an Afghan national who was released into the country under Biden in less than a week, according to DHS.
A “massive threat to national security” is, by any true measure, an understatement.
And this problem isn’t confined to Afghan “refugees.” For years, the United States has admitted waves of migrants from unstable, third-world nations — from Somalia to Haiti and beyond. Add to that the millions who have crossed the southern border under years of Democratic non-enforcement, and we’re left with a simple, alarming truth: we still have no idea where many of these individuals are or what they’re doing.
Even more troubling is the surge of Chinese nationals entering the country illegally. Estimates suggest the number may be as high as 200,000 — and once again, we don’t know where many of them are or what their intentions may be.
So the question becomes: Why on earth would any U.S. administration want to import such drastic national security threats? It’s a question the Biden sycophants should be forced to answer, and in public under oath.
