The left might want to pump the brakes on their victory laps over that Texas redistricting ruling — at least for now.
The U.S. Supreme Court has stepped in and put a hold on the lower court’s decision striking down Texas’s new redistricting maps. Those maps, passed over the summer, were poised to strengthen Republican prospects and potentially add to the GOP’s congressional seat count in the Lone Star State:

Lawyers for Texas had asked the court earlier Friday to issue a stay and effectively let Texas return — at least for now — to the maps it passed over the summer, which redrew five Democratic House seats to make them more GOP-friendly.
Justice Samuel Alito granted the state’s request for an administrative stay, which means the lower court ruling is now on hold until the Supreme Court takes further action.
Texas is asking the high court to stay the lower court ruling on a longer-term basis by Dec. 1, noting that the deadline for candidates to file for next year’s primary elections is Dec. 8. He directed the plaintiffs who sued Texas to file their response by Monday afternoon.
“It IS ORDERED that the November 18, 2025 order of the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, case No. 3:21-cv-259 is hereby administratively stayed pending further order of the undersigned or of the Court,” the stay, written by Justice Samuel Alito, read.
This is a breaking story so this is about all there is on it at the moment. We’ll keep you informed about what comes next. But all in all, it’s a good ruling and one that we believe will eventually prevail, especially since Democrats are doing pretty much the same thing in California.
