I’ve never really understood the mystique surrounding Michelle Obama.
Yes, plenty of Americans were swept up in the Obama wave, and Michelle was part of the package deal — the polished, media-approved counterpart to Barack’s political celebrity.
But let’s be honest: only a handful of First Ladies have had the kind of real political or cultural heft that justifies the breathless attention they receive. Hillary Clinton, for better or worse, was a major figure in her own right. Eleanor Roosevelt reshaped the role entirely. Even Nancy Reagan earned her influence, though much of her intrigue came from her existing ties to Hollywood’s glitterati.
Michelle Obama, by comparison, has never quite reached that level of substantive impact — yet she’s treated like a cross between a pop icon and a political oracle. The hype has always outpaced the résumé.
Michelle, though, continues to draw an outsized amount of attention despite being—let’s be honest—remarkably unremarkable. She’s often dour, perpetually aggrieved, nowhere near the glamorous icon her fans pretend she is (and no, the bizarre online rumors about her are nonsense), and she has perfected the art of public whining.
Yet somehow, Michelle Obama keeps resurfacing as a supposed presidential savior for Democrats. Every time she speaks, she oscillates between being painfully dull and downright off-putting.
And now she’s added yet another grievance to the pile — complaining that she has been forced to straighten her hair because of “white beauty standards.”
MICHELLE OBAMA: $70 Million Net Worth, Yet Still Plays The “OPPRESSED Victim”!
Martha’s Vineyard mansion ?
Hawaii beach estate ?
$50M Netflix deals ?
Private jets on repeat ?But America is “racist” and she’s “traumatized” by… hair straighteners?
OK.

It’s hard to understand why Michelle Obama insists she has no choice in something as basic as her hairstyle. Who, exactly, is forcing a former first lady, multimillionaire, and global celebrity to straighten her hair? Last anyone checked, she isn’t under contract to the White House anymore, nor is she being dragged to a salon against her will.
Michelle Obama:
“Don't even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You're not ready for a woman. So don't waste my time. We got a lot of growing up to do.”

But in Michelle’s world, America simply isn’t “ready” for her — or, apparently, for her natural curls. The implication is always that the country is the problem, never her own choices.
So here we are again: America, in her telling, just isn’t mature enough yet. Maybe she’s holding out for the day Stacey Abrams’ imaginary role of “President of Earth” becomes available. By then, perhaps the rest of us will finally be enlightened enough to handle Michelle Obama’s “kinky hair.”
It really is astonishing how the intersectional oppression olympics plays out. In any sane universe, Michelle Obama would be recognized as one of the most privileged individuals ever to walk the earth. She is wealthy, influential, endlessly celebrated, treated by the media as if she were some sort of cultural demigod — and yet, in her own telling and in the eyes of her devoted fans, she remains deeply “oppressed” simply because she has to share a country with white people.
White people, mind you, who live far less privileged lives than she does.

The horror, truly. Imagine being forced to endure tailored clothing, endless magazine covers, and a $50 million Netflix deal for… well, whatever it is she actually does. Spare us.
I’m sure her life hasn’t been perfect — nobody’s is. Everyone pays a price for what they achieve. But that’s precisely the point: this is true of literally everyone.
So no, I don’t want to hear it from her, her fans, or the media chorus that insists on treating her every passing complaint like a great act of courage.
Enough already. Shut up, Michelle — and please, go away.
