Eight days into the Schumer Shutdown, Republicans made it clear they weren’t looking to change the Senate filibuster rules — and that still holds true today.
Now, as we enter day 30 of this Democrat-engineered fiasco, the pressure is clearly starting to get to them. Cracks are forming, but they’re still refusing to do the obvious: pass a clean Continuing Resolution and reopen the government. At this point, it’s clear the Democrats would rather drag the country through more pain than admit their shutdown strategy has completely blown up in their faces.
President Trump is now urging Senate Republicans to pull the trigger and scrap the filibuster altogether to end the Schumer Shutdown once and for all. He’s had enough of Democrat obstruction and political games:

In a lengthy Truth Social post, President Trump reflected on his successful trip to Asia and weighed in on the ongoing Schumer Shutdown. He praised Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson for doing a “great job,” while blasting Democrats as “crazed lunatics who have lost all sense of wisdom and reality.”
He ended the post by writing, “Because of the fact that the Democrats have gone stone cold crazy, the choice is clear — initiate the ‘nuclear option,’ get rid of the filibuster and make America great again!” Here’s more:
The directive — which came after Trump returned from several days abroad — is likely to upend efforts on Capitol Hill to bring an end to the weekslong funding impasse. And it immediately ratcheted up the pressure on Republican leaders, who have adamantly opposed eliminating the 60-vote threshold for passing legislation as a way to end the shutdown.
Top GOP lawmakers have long argued for keeping that threshold in place, asserting that the filibuster benefits Republicans — and will serve as a key safeguard against Democrats passing transformative legislation the next time they’re in power.
Conservatives and Republicans are warning that eliminating the filibuster is exactly what Democrats are hoping for — a short-term win they can weaponize later when they inevitably claw back a narrow Senate majority.
They’ve seen this movie before. Back in 2013, then–Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid blew up the filibuster for lower court judicial nominees, smugly assuming Democrats would hold power indefinitely. Four years later, Republicans turned those same rules around and used them to confirm Supreme Court justices.
Then again…
Trump called to end the filibuster during his first term.
Had Republicans listened, Democrats would have passed their crazy elections takeover under Biden and there would be nothing left.
This is bait. Democrats want Republicans to end it for them. Don’t be dumb.
