The Department of Justice announced plans to deploy election monitors to polling locations in six jurisdictions ahead of the November 4, 2025, general election. The move is intended to ensure transparency, ballot security, and compliance with federal election laws.
According to the DOJ, the Civil Rights Division oversees enforcement of federal voting rights statutes designed to protect every eligible citizen’s access to the ballot. The department routinely sends personnel to observe elections across the country to verify compliance with federal civil rights requirements, according to TownHall.com.
“Transparency at the polls translates into faith in the electoral process, and this Department of Justice is committed to upholding the highest standards of election integrity,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “We will commit the resources necessary to ensure the American people get the fair, free, and transparent elections they deserve.”
The department announced it would monitor the following jurisdictions:
- Passaic County, New Jersey
- Kern County, California
- Riverside County, California
- Fresno County, California
- Orange County, California
- Los Angeles County, California
Under the direction of Bondi, the initiative will be managed by the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, led by Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon.
The Division will deploy Civil Rights Division personnel to the designated jurisdictions, where they will coordinate with local U.S. Attorney’s Offices to oversee election monitoring efforts.
“The Department of Justice will do everything necessary to protect the votes of eligible American citizens, ensuring our elections are safe and secure,” said Dhillon. “Transparent election processes and election monitoring are critical tools for safeguarding our elections and ensuring public trust in the integrity of our elections.”

The initiative is designed to promote transparency and facilitate clear communication between poll observers and federal election monitors, ensuring that elections are conducted securely and in accordance with the law.
“Our democracy depends on free and fair elections,” said Acting United States Attorney Bill Essayli of the Central District of California. “We will work tirelessly to uphold and protect the integrity of the election process.”
“Election protection means making sure every eligible voter can participate freely and every lawful vote is counted,” added Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney Alina Habba of the District of New Jersey. “Our office is committed to working alongside our federal, state, and local partners to ensure transparency, security, and public confidence in the election process.”
The Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division is responsible for enforcing several key federal laws that safeguard the right to vote, including the Voting Rights Act, the National Voter Registration Act, the Help America Vote Act, the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, and the Civil Rights Acts.
From now until Election Day, personnel in the Civil Rights Division will be available to receive questions and complaints from the public regarding possible violations of federal voting rights laws.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Democrats claimed, without a shred of evidence, that the move aims to suppress the vote:
Trump is sending the DOJ to California to “monitor” the election. His intentions are clear — he wants to suppress the vote. And when we win, he will falsely lay claim to fraud.

? Governor Gavin Newsom is furious now that ELECTION MONITORS are being sent by Harmeet Dhillon to make sure he doesn't cheat in the November election.
No illegals can vote, Gavin.

It seems obvious that the Justice Dept. has some intel that a number of people are voting in elections who have no legal right to do so (i.e. illegal aliens). Maybe that’s who Newsom’s worried about when he whines about “voter suppression.”
