Charlie Kirk’s campus debate tour hasn’t stopped — it’s just being carried on by others willing to step in. And here’s the bad news for leftist students: the replacements are just as sharp when it comes to dismantling bad-faith arguments.
Case in point: Megyn Kelly, who took the stage at a Turning Point USA event at Virginia Tech. She went head-to-head with a liberal student who claimed President Trump’s rhetoric somehow fueled Kirk’s assassination.
That’s the playbook for the resistance, isn’t it? It’s never the killer’s fault. It’s never about the man who pulled the trigger. It’s the gun’s fault, or the conservative leader’s words that supposedly “hurt feelings” and drove someone to violence. It’s excuse-making dressed up as argument — and Kelly wasn’t buying it.
“Why do you support a president who contributes to the rhetoric that got your friend Charlie Kirk killed?” the student asked. “We saw his rally recently, he said, ‘I hate my enemies.’”
Kelly immediately trashed that argument. “This is how we get here,” Kelly responded. “That is a blatant lie, it’s a defamatory blaspheme, and it’s inappropriate in this setting.”
But the student doubled down, insisting that the president somehow “contributed to the atmosphere” that led to Kirk’s murder. It’s the same tired dodge — blame Trump, blame conservatives, blame anyone but the actual assassin.
“Well then, you have no point. Then your point is utterly empty. ‘Contributing to the atmosphere?’ Let’s just make clear, [Kirk’s assassin] was motivated by leftist ideology,” she fired back. “We know it from the bullet casings, we know it from the Utah governor, we know it from his own mother.”

The student, squeaking his way through a question, claimed the DOJ pulled a study on right-wing violence because officials are “delusional.” And zero self-awareness, by the way.
The delusion isn’t in the DOJ — it’s in the study itself. Just like the ones telling you crime is falling in blue cities while conveniently ignoring offenses committed by illegal immigrants. Just like the ones that swore the vaccine was more effective than natural immunity and that masks and social distancing actually worked. These reports aren’t about facts — they’re about pushing a narrative.
Here’s the reality check: a new poll taken after Charlie Kirk’s assassination shows the American left is increasingly comfortable with political violence. Significant numbers of liberals said it’s “always or usually acceptable” to celebrate the death of a political opponent, and some even admitted violence can be justified. That’s not delusion. That’s dangerous.
That poll comes on the heels of an April 2025 study from Rutgers University’s Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI), which found the political left increasingly leaning into what it bluntly called an “assassination culture.”
The first step in healing and recovery is to admit you – and your party – have a violence problem.
