President Donald Trump delivered a blistering attack on the UN straight to world leaders’ faces this morning in a speech that lasted nearly an hour, well over each speaker’s 15-minute allotted time.
Trump slammed UN nations’ “open borders,” telling heads of state “your countries are going to hell” because of them. He slammed the body’s “empty words” and questioned its entire existence.
“Your countries are going to hell,” he told the General Assembly. “Your prisons are filled with so-called asylum seekers who repaid kindness — and that’s what they did, they repaid kindness with crime.
“It’s time to end the failed experiment of open borders,” Trump added, per the New York Post.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres told Trump during a pre-speech meeting: “We are entirely at your disposal to work together toward a just peace.”
Trump responded:
“Our country is behind the United Nations 100%,” Trump said in response. “I think the potential of the United Nations is incredible. Really incredible. It can do so much. I’m behind it. I may disagree with it sometimes but I am so behind it. … the potential for peace with this institution is so great. So I just want to thank you for treating us so lovely.”
Later, Trump wrote on his Truth Social page: “It was a great honor to speak before the United Nations.”
“I believe the speech was very well received. It focused very much on energy and migration/immigration. I have been talking about this for a long period of time and this Forum, was the absolute best from the standpoint of making these two important statements. I hope everybody gets to watch it!” he added.
