Disney and ABC announced Monday that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to the air Tuesday, following the suspension of host Jimmy Kimmel. Media reporter Dylan Byers reported that Disney confirmed the suspension has been lifted.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” Byers wrote Monday on X. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! was suspended last week after the host falsely claimed that the man accused of murdering conservative activist Charlie Kirk was “MAGA.” In response, two major ABC affiliates, Nexstar and Sinclair, pulled the program, prompting Disney and ABC to suspend the show.
Kimmel reportedly declined to apologize to Disney and ABC executives, a move that sources said contributed to the length of his suspension.
The suspension drew sharp criticism from progressive groups and Hollywood figures, while also prompting calls from some activists to cancel subscriptions to Disney+.
