A memorial for Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk will be held Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Kirk was assassinated on Sept. 10, and more than 100,000 people are expected to attend, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Kirk’s widow, Erika.
Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet addressed what he described as a difficult and graphic detail on X, saying he was responding to an online discussion. Kolvet revealed that Kirk’s surgeon had described one aspect of the shooting as an “absolute miracle.”
“I just spoke with the surgeon who worked on Charlie in the hospital…He said the bullet “absolutely should have gone through, which is very very normal for a high powered, high velocity round. I’ve seen wounds from this caliber many times and they always just go through everything. This would have taken a moose or two down, an elk, etc.” he wrote.
Kolvet explained that there were many “staff, students, and special guests” behind Kirk who could have been hit. Kolvet said the bullet was found just beneath the skin.
“It was an absolute miracle that someone else didn’t get killed,” the doctor said. “It should have just gone through and through. It likely would have killed those standing behind him too.”
“Even in death, Charlie managed to save the lives of those around him,” Kolvet added. “Remarkable. Miraculous.”
Kolvet said he had received permission to share the information. Hundreds were in attendance at Kirk’s Utah Valley University event when he was shot.
Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with seven counts in connection with the killing, including aggravated murder. Prosecutors allege Kirk was targeted for his political expression and that Robinson carried out the attack knowing children were present and would witness the crime.
