A suspicious bag discovered outside Turning Point USA’s Phoenix headquarters on Wednesday prompted a bomb squad response, coming just a week after the assassination of the group’s founder, Charlie Kirk.
Phoenix police said the bag was spotted that morning outside the building. A bomb squad robot and an officer in Explosive Ordnance Disposal gear were deployed, and the street was cleared as a precaution. Authorities have not said what, if anything, was found inside the bag.
“There is not a threat associated with this incident. Updates will be given out as they become available,” authorities stated. Yellow crime scene tape has been placed around the area to protect any potential evidence, according to reports.

Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated on September 10 while addressing a crowd of students and supporters at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Authorities say Kirk, 31, was struck in the neck by a single rifle round fired from a rooftop as he answered a question about transgender mass shooters. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The event drew about 3,000 people and was staffed by just six campus police officers, raising new scrutiny about security for high-profile political figures on college campuses.
The accused gunman, 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson, was arrested roughly 33 hours later after his father turned him in to police. Investigators tied him to the attack through surveillance video, DNA evidence on the weapon and ammunition, and digital communications, including a Discord message in which he confessed: “It was me at UVU yesterday… I’m sorry for all of this.”
On September 16, Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray filed seven charges against Robinson, including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in front of children. Gray confirmed prosecutors will seek the death penalty. Utah is one of five states where execution by firing squad remains permitted.
