In Utah, against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains and Mormon churches — and not far from where FBI agents continue gathering evidence in Charlie Kirk’s assassination — a self-styled armed revolutionary group with open ties to Cuba has emerged in one of America’s most conservative states.
Armed Queers SLC describes its mission as training gay, queer, and transgender people to arm themselves and oppose capitalism. While its Facebook page does not explicitly call for the use of firearms, many of its posts feature gun imagery.
Earlier this year, members traveled to Cuba to mark the May Day holiday, joining a march and events with revolutionaries from around the world, Just the News reported on Monday.
Before being deleted Friday, the group’s public Instagram account featured photos of its young members participating in activities. In a YouTube video posted after their visit to Havana, leaders openly discussed how their agenda aligned with that of Cuba’s communist regime.
The video has since been removed and does not appear in any web archive, but Just the News obtained and transcribed the discussion prior to its deletion, the outlet said.
In a since-deleted May video titled “Cuba Report Back: Our Time as 2025 May Day Brigadistas,” Armed Queers leaders Ermyia Fanaeian and a man identifying himself as “Connor” discussed their trip to Cuba. Just the News reported it was unable to positively identify him.
Armed Queers leaders said their trip left them inspired by the Cuban revolution and expressed a desire to bring that revolutionary spirit back to the United States, said the outlet.
Connor said that “we were there in Cuba to learn and to learn of the successes of the revolution and bring it back home with us.” Fanaeian said that “we definitely felt the pressure” to bring the revolution back to America, saying that she was essentially told in Cuba that “okay y’all are here, y’all are learning this information, you’re learning how we made our revolution, but now it’s time for you to go home and make your own revolution.”
The report on the armed organization comes amid a push by the Trump administration to investigate left-wing organizations in the wake of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
