Missouri Republicans on Friday approved a new congressional map and sent it to Gov. Mike Kehoe’s desk.
The plan is expected to add another GOP-leaning district in the solidly red state. The Senate passed the map in a 21-11 vote after House approval earlier in the week.
Former President Donald Trump praised Missouri lawmakers for advancing the measure. “Thank you very much to the Great State of Missouri for the redistricting, which will, hopefully, give us an additional Seat in Congress! A new, much fairer, and much improved, Congressional Map, has now overwhelmingly passed both Chambers of the Missouri Legislature,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump added that the map “will help send an additional MAGA Republican to Congress in the 2026 Midterm Elections. It is wonderful to see Republicans in the ‘Show Me State’ standing up to Save our Country, and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
The new map is projected to give Republicans a 7-1 edge in Missouri’s congressional delegation, up from the current 6-2 split.
State Sen. Nick Schroer, a Republican and member of the Freedom Caucus, told The Daily Wire that the last round of redistricting carved out a district to protect Kansas City Democrat Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. He noted the new plan avoids splitting St. Charles and Warren counties, as the current map does.
“So by way of keeping these counties back together, creating a map that is compact and contiguous, in essence, it’s making that seat more competitive,” Schroer told The Daily Wire. Democrats accused Trump of interfering in Missouri politics, while Republican lawmakers credited him for pushing the state to adopt new maps.
