Officials have revealed how former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber died unexpectedly last month.
Aber, who led the Eastern District of Virginia during the Biden administration, was found dead at her Alexandria home in March. Her family confirmed she had long managed epilepsy and seizures. Police said from the outset there was no evidence of foul play and her death appeared natural, the Virginia-Pilot reported.
Aber resigned as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in January with the change in administrations. Appointed in 2021, she was the first woman in nearly a decade to hold the post, leading one of the nation’s busiest districts on cases ranging from national security and corruption to fraud and international crime.
Among her most high-profile prosecutions was that of ex-CIA analyst Asif Rahman, 34, who pleaded guilty to leaking top-secret documents about Israel’s planned 2024 strike on Iran — a disclosure analysts said forced Israel to delay the attack.
Her resignation on the day President Donald Trump began his second term followed the long-standing custom of U.S. Attorneys stepping down during a transition of power.
