President Donald Trump’s strict border enforcement policies are not only dramatically reducing the number of illegal crossings but they are also saving lives, a report on Monday noted.
The Mexican Consulate in Eagle Pass, Texas, has reported five migrant deaths in and around the border town since January, according to a spokesperson. That figure — fewer than one per month — is far lower than the near-daily fatalities recorded during President Biden’s border crisis, Breitbart News noted.
Vivian Juárez, a spokesperson for the Mexican Consulate in Eagle Pass, told La Rancherita del Aire that five migrant deaths have been recorded since January, including one case where only skeletal remains were found. Most of the deaths are believed to be from heat-related dehydration.
Juárez attributed the decline in fatalities to stricter border control measures implemented by President Donald Trump in January.
At the height of border crossings in July 2023, the Del Rio Sector — which includes Eagle Pass — saw an average of one migrant death per day. In September 2022, nine drowned in a single incident while trying to cross the Rio Grande.
The sharp decline since then marks a dramatic shift for a city once overwhelmed by daily crossings. Today, officials say President Trump’s strict immigration measures have reduced traffic to a trickle, Breitbart reported.
Border Patrol apprehensions have fallen from nearly 5,000 a day in December 2023 to fewer than 15 on most days this July, Customs and Border Protection reports show. A CBP spokesperson told Breitbart Texas the July numbers illustrate the trend, with illegal crossings down 90 percent compared with the monthly average under the Biden administration.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem praised the July decline, citing it as evidence of tougher enforcement. “History made, again. The numbers don’t lie—this is the most secure the border has ever been. President Trump didn’t just manage the crisis—he obliterated it. No more excuses. No more releases. We’ve put the cartels on defense and taken our border back,” she said.
