President Donald Trump’s sweeping federal intervention in the capital’s law enforcement, launched earlier this month to combat rising violent crime, is already a resounding success, despite complaints from Democrats.
Under the plan, hundreds of federal agents and National Guard troops have been deployed, with the D.C. Metropolitan Police placed under federal command following a series of high-profile attacks, including the killing of a congressional intern, the assault of a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer, and the murder of two employees of the Israeli embassy.
New statistics suggest the crackdown is having an immediate impact. According to data from the D.C. Police Union reported by Fox News Digital, violent crime in the city has dropped 22 percent over the past week. As of Wednesday, Washington recorded no homicides in the previous seven days — the first week without a murder since March.
Washington DC has recorded zero murders in the past week. Bravo to the Trump administration for the lives they are saving.

The union’s data also shows sharp declines in other major crimes. Carjackings are down 83 percent since the federal takeover began, while robberies have fallen by 46 percent. Overall crime in the city has decreased by 8 percent, with homicides down 25 percent compared with earlier this year, though officials note the decline in homicides began before the federal action.

President Trump assumed direct authority over D.C. police on August 7 by invoking the Home Rule Act, marking the first time local law enforcement in the capital has been placed under federal command. As part of the initiative, his administration deployed 1,450 police officers and National Guard personnel to reinforce security across the city.
“I understand a lot of you tend to be on the liberal side, but… you don’t want to get mugged and raped and shot and killed,” Trump told reporters in the jam-packed White House press briefing room last week.
